Ferguson can be explored through a wide range of themes: historic sites and art sit alongside sports facilities, water-based activities, and a farm focused on ecological food production. Recreational options range from swimming areas and slides to disc golf, while historic buildings and a commercial district add their own historical dimensions. This lets you choose the focus of your trip according to your interests.

Art and Historic Sites

The first Jeske Sculpture Park Exhibition brought together ten works of art by eight artists from seven states in 2014. Historic sites include Central School, at the corner of 201 Wesley Ave. and Clark; it dates from 1878. Ferguson’s Church Street Commercial District dates from 1895 to 1925. Wildwood is located in Ferguson at 40 Dames Court and dates from 1857. Together, these examples offer insight into different aspects of Ferguson’s history: an exhibition, a school building, a commercial district, and an estate.

Water, Sports, and Parks

SPLASH at Wabash Aquatic Complex features a spiral slide, a speed slide, a zero-depth-entry pool, and a splash-play area. It also has a lazy river, a whirlpool, a splash pad and water playground, a diving board, and a six-lane swimming area. This gives you a clear picture of the complex’s different water areas and activities, from slides and water play to lap swimming.

Visitors participate in sports leagues or watch them at the Ferguson Sports Complex in Forestwood Park. The complex receives more than 71,000 visitors each year. For disc golf, Hudson Park Disc Golf Course is another option: its design makes use of the park’s natural beauty. The course is designed to be fun and challenging for players of all skill levels. Players can borrow a disc at the Ferguson Community Center, 1050 Smith Ave., by presenting photo ID.

Wayside Park Unleashed has a large and a small area where dogs can play off-leash. Registration is required for the park. This requirement sets it apart from the other recreational options: if you’re visiting with a dog, be sure to register.

EarthDance and the Farmers Market

EarthDance is a historic 14-acre farm that serves as a model for sustainable food production. This historic Ferguson property has been used for ecological food production since 1883. EarthDance invites visitors to take a tour, learn more about the farm’s history, and see it in operation. If you plan to visit outside the scheduled farmstand hours, contact the farm in advance.

The Ferguson Farmers Market also has a clearly defined profile: all products are homegrown, homemade, or handmade. This product policy may change over time, so check the market’s current information before visiting. This lets you consider the market as a distinct focus of your Ferguson trip alongside its historic and sports-related attractions.
