The attractions range from play areas and a skatepark to fossils in the visitor center, drag racing events, and driving experiences. Consider which of these interests you want to shape your stay.

Parks, Play Areas, and Recreation

Craig Ranch Regional Park covers approximately 170 acres and features a 65,000-square-foot skatepark. The two large playgrounds, Adventure Playground and Pioneer Playground, cover a total of five acres; their features include climbing rocks, water play areas, and slides. These area figures refer to different parts of the offering: the regional park as a whole, both playgrounds combined, and the skatepark. For a metric reference, approximately 170 acres is about 69 hectares; the five acres of the two playgrounds are around two hectares, and the skatepark covers around 6,000 square meters.

Aliante Nature Discovery Park is located in North Las Vegas and covers 20 acres. It has a lake, a waterfall, and a dinosaur-themed children’s area. Walking paths and tennis, volleyball, and bocce courts round out the park’s offerings. Compared with Craig Ranch, where the skatepark and large playgrounds stand out, Aliante combines water features with paths and sports courts.

A different figure is relevant for cycling: North Las Vegas has 15 miles of multi-use bike paths. By contrast, the walking paths at Aliante Nature Discovery Park are specific to that park. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between the extent of North Las Vegas’s bike paths and the paths within this park.

Fossils and the Past

Ice Age Fossils State Park in North Las Vegas covers 315 acres and includes a section of the Upper Las Vegas Wash. This landscape contains rich paleontological and historical resources. During the Pleistocene, the Upper Las Vegas Wash provided habitat for several now-extinct mammal species, including Columbian mammoths, American lions, camels, dire wolves, and ground sloths.

The park’s visitor center displays fossils from Tule Springs. The habitat of animals that have long been extinct and the fossil exhibit thus offer two distinct ways to explore paleontological history.

Motorsport and Driving Experiences

North Las Vegas is home to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which hosts numerous NHRA drag racing events. The speedway also features an infield road course and offers driving experiences. An event and a driving experience are different ways to include motorsport in your travel plans.

If your trip depends on a particular event or driving experience, check the event schedule or the driving experience’s availability in advance.
