Plymouth offers two distinct focuses for planning your trip: hiking and cultural events. In Walter Newton Natural Area, hiking trails lead to Glove Hollow Brook; on Plymouth Mountain, the focus is access to the summit and scenic overlooks. The town center is home to the historic theater The Flying Monkey, while the Eagle Pond Authors’ Series hosts readings in Smith Recital Hall at the Silver Center for the Arts. If you’re looking for a hotel in Plymouth, you can plan your stay around one of these specific interests.

Hiking Trails and Scenic Overlooks

In Walter Newton Natural Area, hiking trails lead to Glove Hollow Brook. On Plymouth Mountain, the Fauver Link Trail provides access to the summit. The hike up Plymouth Mountain is moderately challenging and about five miles round trip. The destinations have different points of interest: in the Natural Area, the brook is the focal point; on the mountain, it’s the summit. The stated distance and difficulty level refer to the Plymouth Mountain hike. Trail conditions can change, so check the latest conditions before setting out.

There is no view from the summit of Plymouth Mountain itself. However, two rocky outcrops offer outstanding views. Pike’s Peak is about half a mile from the summit and offers views to the north and east. Another rocky outcrop just below the summit provides views to the east and south. The viewpoints differ both in location and in the directions they face; if you’re hiking mainly for the views, you can take these two factors into account when planning your route. The distance of about half a mile refers to the distance from the summit to Pike’s Peak, while the roughly five miles describe the full round-trip hike.

Theater and Readings

The Flying Monkey is a historic theater in downtown Plymouth, New Hampshire. It originally opened in the 1920s as the New Plymouth Theater, presenting vaudeville performances and silent films. Its program includes community productions, weekly film screenings, silent films, and live events. The theater’s opening in the 1920s is part of its history; for your visit, the current program is what matters. Individual events may change, so check the schedule if you’re planning to attend a specific film screening or live event.
