For a stay in Edgewater Park, three themes stand out: the Delaware River Heritage Trail, the municipal parks and sports facilities, and Shipman Mansion on the Delaware River. Depending on whether you want to walk or cycle, explore specific recreational facilities, or learn about architectural history, different places may take center stage in your plans.

Walking, cycling, and parks

The Delaware River Heritage Trail is a continuous walking and cycling trail from Trenton to Palmyra that runs through Edgewater Park. In the township, it connects Wood Lake Park, Kite Field, Roosevelt Park, and Memorial Field. The trail offers opportunities for walks and bike rides through a natural landscape characterized by woods and wetlands. This lets you combine the regional route from Trenton to Palmyra with the four named places in Edgewater Park.

There are also walking paths in Roosevelt Park and Pond and Wood Lake Park. Fishing is also possible at Roosevelt Park and Pond; dogs are allowed at Wood Lake Park, and owners must clean up after them. The parks offer different options: a walking path and fishing at Roosevelt Park and Pond, or a walking path and a visit with your dog at Wood Lake Park. If you visit the park with your dog, be sure to clean up after it. Park rules may change, so check the latest information in advance.

Play and sports facilities are also available at specific locations. Weimann Field has a playground and also offers tennis. Dinoia Park, formerly called Spider Park, also has a playground. Kite Field has a playground and offers the chance to play baseball, while football can be played at Memorial Field. Park facilities may change, so check the latest information before your visit.

Architecture and history by the river

Shipman Mansion, a Second Empire-style residence built around 1869, stands on the banks of the Delaware River. It is listed on both the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places. Since 1926, the building has been home to the Red Dragon Canoe Club, one of the oldest surviving boating clubs on the Delaware River.

Unlike the park facilities, the mansion brings together a distinctive architectural style and the history of a boating club in one building. It can add a cultural focus to your travel plans if you want to explore architecture and local history as well as trails and sports.

Transportation connections for planning

U.S. Route 130 connects Edgewater Park with Interstate 295, the New Jersey Turnpike, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. NJ Transit’s RiverLine has a light rail stop on Cooper Street at the municipal boundary between Edgewater Park and Beverly. If you plan to take the RiverLine, check the current schedule before traveling. The road connections and the stop offer different starting points for planning your journey.
