Mandan: Trails, Parks and Rodeo Days
Accommodation in Mandan
Mandan offers several distinct ways to plan a stay: seasonal museum hours, sports, outdoor trails and events. If you’re looking for hotels in Mandan, you can shape your stay around a museum visit, activities in a park or a particular event date. The options differ both by season and by type of activity: the museum and Rodeo Days take place during specific time periods, while trails and sports offer their own leisure options.
Culture and Events
The Mandan Historical Society Museum is open on weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The seasonal period and weekend hours give a visit a clear place in your travel plans: the museum is an option for a weekend within this period, not for just any weekday. This makes it easy to plan a museum visit as part of your stay.
Rodeo Days take place around July 4. They include Art In the Park and the state’s longest parade. The Mandan Rodeo Days are also among a select group of rodeos nationwide classified as PRCA Playoff Series events. This offers a different focus for travel planning than the seasonal museum: here, the focus is an event date with several specified components.
Trails, Parks and River Nature
Mandan has 25 to 30 miles of paved recreational bike trails. There are also approximately nine miles of cross-country ski trails. These distances represent different activities and can be planned separately.
One specific park trail is the Sunset Park Trail. It loops through 80-acre Sunset Park, north of the Mandan Community Center. The park also has an 18-hole disc golf course in hilly terrain. Alongside its loop trail, this named park therefore offers a distinct sports option at a clearly defined location with a described terrain.
The Missouri River Nature Trail has a different focus: natural riverside forest defines the trail. It is popular with mountain bikers who prefer varied terrain; a cross-country ski trail is also maintained there during the winter months. The riverside forest, terrain and winter ski trail distinguish this trail from both the paved recreational bike trails and the loop at Sunset Park.
Routes Beyond Mandan
The Missouri Valley Millennium Trail connects Bismarck and Mandan with historic, recreational and cultural sites along the Missouri River. This sets it apart from the park trails described above: the focus is on the connection between two cities and the sites along the river.
The Old Red Old Ten Scenic Byway runs along I-94 through ten communities from Mandan to Dickinson. Along the route, visitors can explore unique shops, restaurants, historic sites and prairie landscapes. This route offers a different perspective on travel planning: in addition to places and activities in Mandan itself, you can also consider shops, dining and landscapes along the way.
Swimming, Tennis and Motorsports
The Mandan Aquatic Center has an eight-lane, 50-meter pool and a separate diving pool. The Mandan Park District offers public programs there, including water aerobics, afternoon public swimming and swimming lessons. Options range from afternoon public swimming to exercise programs and lessons.
The Mandan Tennis Center has indoor and outdoor tennis and pickleball courts. Active auto racing takes place at Dacotah Centennial Park on weekends. Alongside the trails, swimming, tennis, pickleball and racing therefore offer a range of different interests to consider when planning a stay.
