London combines two trails with different routes, insights into Madison County’s history, and a theater showing films. If you’re planning a trip to London, these places can help you prioritize your interests: Would you like to explore a longer route, learn about local history, or plan a movie night?

Prairie Grass Trail and Roberts Pass

The Prairie Grass Trailhead is located at 262 West High Street in London, just south of the Madison County Senior Center. The Prairie Grass Trail begins there. It runs about 10 miles southwest to South Charleston. The approximate length and destination give you a clear idea of the route: it heads southwest from London and continues beyond the city. London Trailside Camping at the trailhead is intended as a service for long-distance hikers.

Another route description concerns Roberts Pass. In London, it runs east from Walnut Street to the Roberts Pass Trailhead, east of 199 East Center Street. From Walnut Street, Roberts Pass continues and ends 6.8 miles later at the Wilson Road terminus, where it joins the Camp Chase Trail. The Roberts Pass Trailhead has parking, benches, and trash receptacles, including dog waste bags. The approximately 10-mile distance refers to the Prairie Grass Trail; the 6.8 miles refer to Roberts Pass. The routes therefore differ both in their courses and in their stated endpoints.

Local History at the Museum

The Madison County Historical Society Museum connects local history with specific examples from life in the region. The grounds include Jonathan Alder’s small cabin, one of the first log cabins in Madison County. The exhibit on the Lilly Chapel Post Office and Miller’s Store also focuses on the country stores that were important to Madison County’s farming community. Miller’s Store represents many such businesses. The museum thus offers both an individual historic building and a look at institutions of everyday community life.

The museum is open to the public Wednesdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.; access by appointment is also available. If you’re planning to visit, check in advance which option works for your preferred date. The historic surroundings also include London’s 1811 Downtown District. A local charity with U.S. 501(c)(3) tax status is dedicated exclusively to the ongoing improvement of this historic district.

Movies and Refreshments at the London State Theater

The London State Theater has an auditorium with more than 250 seats and a digital projector suited to current films. The theater thus complements the trail and museum offerings with a place to enjoy a movie. Food and drink options include popcorn and soda as well as sandwiches and flatbreads. When planning your trip, these details can help you distinguish a potential movie outing from a visit focused on the trails or local history. Check showtimes for your preferred date before visiting.
