Whitehall: Parks, History and Events
Accommodation in Whitehall
If you’re looking for a hotel in Whitehall, it helps to first determine the reason for your stay. Different interests may shape your plans: community parks and historical activities in Whitehall, as well as shopping, dining, and events at Caste Village. Depending on what matters to you, the questions you should resolve before planning your trip may differ, too.
Parks and Local History
Whitehall has six parks, each with numerous sports fields, playgrounds, and open spaces available to residents. The facilities serve a range of community uses, from play areas and sports fields to open spaces. Residents’ use of these facilities is an important part of the picture when considering what the area offers.
Another way to get to know the community is through the Whitehall Borough Historical Society. It offers presentations and publications about the history of the borough to the general public. This combines an event format with a published approach to local history. If a presentation interests you during your stay, check the specific date before making your plans.
Caste Village: Shopping and Events
Caste Village was one of the first open-air shopping centers in Western Pennsylvania. Today, it is a regional destination for shopping, dining, and services. Its commercial offerings are distinct from the individual events that are also part of what the destination offers.
Events include Family Movie Nights in the parking lot, as well as dance performances and school music performances. Caste Village also hosts fundraisers for local organizations such as Whitehall Library, Autism Society, and Relay for Life. Fireworks take place twice a year: on July 4 and at Holiday Light-Up Night. A farmers market offers fresh produce and arts and crafts items. The community also hosts a “Car Cruise” on Sunday afternoons.
These offerings have different focuses: the farmers market centers on produce and crafts, while performances and fundraisers offer other reasons to visit.
The Borough Summer Camp
The Whitehall Borough Summer Camp runs for six weeks each summer, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Frank Park, Overlook Park, Snyder Park, and Union Park. This specifies the seasonal period, daily hours, and four park locations. The camp therefore differs in its timeframe and schedule from the individual event formats at Caste Village. If it is relevant to your travel plans, check the participation requirements in advance.
When looking for hotels in Whitehall, you can first decide what your stay will focus on: community offerings, local history, or a specific date at Caste Village. For an event, the specific date is an important planning reference; for the Summer Camp, the participation requirements matter too.
