Lycoming County offers several themes to consider when planning a trip: heritage, forest landscapes, and trails of varying lengths and types. The county is part of Pennsylvania’s 15-county Lumber Heritage Region. Its program brings together heritage preservation, recreation, open spaces, and education.

Forest Landscapes and Regional History

Tiadaghton State Forest covers more than 146,000 acres. Most of it lies in Lycoming County, with some areas extending into Tioga, Potter, Clinton, and Union counties. Loyalsock State Forest covers 114,552 acres, runs along Loyalsock Creek, and has areas in Lycoming, Sullivan, and Bradford counties. For Tiadaghton, the main point is that most of the forest is in Lycoming County; for Loyalsock, its location along the creek and its spread across three counties are also important points of reference.

On a smaller scale, Muncy Heritage Park and Nature Trail encompasses 11 acres of historically and ecologically significant land along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. The park showcases the history and natural beauty of Penn Port. The commercial and residential area developed in the 19th century amid the thriving canal industry along the West Branch.

Choose Trails by Length and Type

The Susquehanna River Walk is an approximately four-mile paved loop along the levee system in Williamsport, South Williamsport, and Loyalsock Township. The route is designed for bicycles and pedestrians. Surface conditions can vary in winter, so if you plan to go then, take this potential change into account.

The public Jacoby Falls Trail follows a different route: this 1.6-mile trail leads from Cotner Farm to Jacoby Falls. The waterfall is 29 feet high. This gives you the option of comparing a paved loop with a route that leads to a specific destination. The historic Pine Creek Rail Trail connects Jersey Shore in Lycoming County with Wellsboro in Tioga County over a distance of 62 miles. It is therefore markedly different from the shorter routes and connects two places in different counties.

Culture and Places to Visit

The Muncy Historical Society and Museum of History was founded in 1936. It is dedicated to preserving and maintaining the history and cultural heritage of Muncy and the surrounding communities. At the World of Little League Museum, visitors can take a self-guided tour of the Little League International complex and visit the site where the Little League Baseball World Series is held. The two attractions have different focuses: the history of a community and the world of baseball.

Muncy is also home to Today Farm & Market, a 75-acre farm with a farm store. It sells pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb, and goat meat, as well as eggs from free-range, pasture-raised chickens. The selection may change.

Williamsport First Friday is an event organized by Lycoming Arts and a community celebration of the arts. Event dates vary, so check the latest dates before your trip.
