Alcoa can be explored for trip planning through specific arrival, park, and cultural themes. The city’s history, music events, and Millennium Manor Castle are also part of the picture.

Arriving at McGhee Tyson Airport

McGhee Tyson Airport is located at 2055 Alcoa Highway, Alcoa, TN 37701. At the airport, rental car counters are on the lower level of the terminal building, near baggage claim. If you plan to include a rental car in your arrival arrangements, this information is useful on arrival. Counter locations may change, so check the latest airport information in advance.

Springbrook Park and Outdoor Trails

The Alcoa Duck Pond is part of the larger Springbrook Park, making the pond a specific destination within the park grounds. The park stretches along Springbrook Road from Alcoa High School to Hunt Road. There is a fishing pier for visitors at the pond. The Alcoa-Maryville Greenway has more than 18 miles of paved trails running through Alcoa and Maryville. This gives visitors two distinct options to consider when planning: a specific spot within a park and a trail system that runs through two cities.

City History and Events

The development of the city area followed several land purchases by the Aluminum Company of America in 1910; construction of the townsite that would become the city of Alcoa began in 1917. The Little Tennessee River and its tributaries were considered a good source of the hydroelectric power needed for aluminum production. Springbrook Pool opened in early summer 1931 and can be rented for private parties outside its regular operating hours.

The history of events also has a dated connection to Springbrook Park: FreedomFest became an all-day event in 2006 and expanded to the park. The Songs by the Brook series focuses on Americana, folk, and blues performances by regional and local musicians. If you’re planning your trip around an event, check the dates before making plans.

Millennium Manor Castle

Millennium Manor Castle is in Alcoa and is architecturally modeled on a Roman castle. Construction began in June 1937 and was completed in December 1946. A tourism profile dated July 17, 2023, lists public tours on summer weekends from 12 to 5 p.m. It lists prices of $15 per person or a maximum of $40 for up to eight people; tours are available by appointment only. Before your trip, check whether access, hours, and prices are still current. At eight people, the stated per-person price would amount to $120; the profile’s stated maximum for groups of up to eight is $40.
