Richardson brings together performing arts, visual art, a historic house and expansive green spaces. For your trip planning, it’s worth organizing the various offerings according to your preferred focus: attending a festival, learning about local history or spending time outdoors will lead you to different sides of the city. The Eisemann Center’s location also provides a specific reference point for planning your journey.

The Galatyn Park DART station on the Red Line is a few hundred feet from the Eisemann Center’s main entrance. If you’re planning to attend an event at the Center, you can use this information to help find your way. Check the current schedule before you travel.

Art, Festivals and Events

The Cottonwood Art Festival takes place twice a year and showcases national and local visual artists in a juried exhibition. This puts the selection of exhibited art at the center of the experience. With six stages, the Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival offers a different setting. Stage programs may change, so when planning, it’s worth checking the specific event dates and current program.

There’s an art connection at the Eisemann Center outside the festivals, too: the Forrest & Virginia Green Mezzanine Gallery is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Opening hours may change, so check them before visiting. This lets you plan a gallery visit as part of your day, while festival dates call for a separate look at the events in each season.

Historic Sites and Public Art

Miss Belle’s House is the oldest building in Richardson and is designated a Texas Historic Landmark. In August 2025, the house was moved to a permanent location in Huffhines Park. Its age, historic designation and documented change of location make it a notable point of reference for the city’s history. The move is a specific recent chapter in that history; it dates the relocation, not the building’s construction.

Public art can also be explored along the Central Trail. The trail runs alongside US 75 from the city’s northern to its southern boundary. Its northern section features eight public artworks highlighted on the city’s Public Art Walk. These two details offer different kinds of orientation: the route describes the trail’s north–south alignment, while the number of artworks pinpoints the focus in its northern section.

Parks, Trails and Recreation

For time in the great outdoors, Breckinridge Park offers 417 acres of open space, where you can walk along Rowlett Creek. The park is a named destination for a stroll, while Richardson as a whole has 30 parks and more than 40 miles of hiking and biking trails. Another trail connects the Spring Creek Nature Area in the north with Galatyn Park Plaza in the south. These offer different planning options: a walk along a named creek, the citywide selection of trails and the described north–south connection.

The Heights Family Aquatic Center offers lap and recreational swimming, a children’s water play area and water slides. It operates seasonally, and offerings may change, so check current opening hours and activities in advance. The Richardson Gymnastics Center offers recreational classes focused on coordination, strength, flexibility and motor skills. Classes are open to residents and nonresidents. Since class offerings and registration requirements may change, it’s worth checking them in advance when planning.

When choosing a hotel, these different interests can help you decide what to include in your stay: art and events, local history, outdoor trails or recreational activities. Be sure to check event dates, gallery hours and seasonal activities for your travel dates.
