A stay in Mabank can be shaped around a range of local interests: the town’s history, the seasonal Farmers Market, or Cedar Creek Reservoir.

Road Access and Getting Around

Mabank is located on U.S. Highway 175, near its intersections with Farm Road 90 and FM 198. Mabank’s historical marker is located in the traffic triangle formed by Business U.S. 175 and W. Market St. These details serve different purposes for getting oriented: the highway and farm roads refer to the town’s location, while Business U.S. 175 and W. Market St. refer to the marker’s location.

Mabank’s History

The Mabank area was first settled by Lorenzo D. Stover in 1846. The name Mabank was formed by combining the names of the town’s two landowners. Mabank was established along the railroad line in 1900; afterward, the residents of Lawndale moved to the new town center of Mabank. Both the early settlement and the town’s establishment in connection with the railroad are historical points of reference.

The history of local congregations also has several milestones. First Presbyterian Church of Mabank was founded on September 11, 1896, in Lawndale as a small Cumberland Presbyterian congregation. First Methodist Church of Mabank was founded in 1901. The years 1896 and 1901 thus fall before and after Mabank’s founding in 1900, respectively; the Presbyterian congregation was founded in Lawndale.

The Farmers Market Throughout the Year

The Mabank Farmers Market changes location with the seasons. From March through October, it is held in downtown Mabank; from November through February, it is held at the Mabank Pavilion. The period and location go together here: the two seasonal periods are associated with different places. Since seasonal locations can change, check the current location before visiting.

Cedar Creek Reservoir: History and Activities

Cedar Creek Reservoir, also known as Cedar Creek Lake, was completed in 1965. Mabank lies on the reservoir’s northeastern edge. The development of Cedar Creek Lake strengthened the Mabank community in 1966. The lake is therefore both historically connected to the community and a practical consideration when planning activities in the area.

In the area around Mabank, Cedar Creek Reservoir can be accessed via two public boat ramps and several private marinas. The usability of the ramps can vary with water levels. Some marinas in the area have campgrounds or RV sites; individual facilities may change. Check the latest information when making specific plans.

At the lower end of Cedar Creek Reservoir, the water is clear; this is the best area for fishing for largemouth bass. Boating access and fishing have different geographic points of reference: the ramps and marinas are in the area around Mabank, while the fishing information refers to the lower end of the reservoir.
