Riviera in Texas is a small town in Kleberg County. Its name recalls Theodore F. Koch’s comparison of the coastal landscape to southern France; it does not refer to the French Riviera. Anyone looking for a hotel should carefully check its actual location in Texas and its distance from natural or coastal destinations.

Local History

The town was established beside the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway, whose line was completed in 1904. The Riviera Historical Museum occupies part of a bank building dating from 1910 and displays newspaper clippings, photographs, and historical objects. Riviera Cemetery was designated a Texas Historic Cemetery in 2006. The museum and cemetery serve different purposes: visitors should follow the access and conduct rules that apply to each.

Birds and Water

The Louise Trant Bird Sanctuary is a marsh area managed by the Audubon Outdoor Club of Corpus Christi. Riviera Beach Park has a 400-foot public fishing pier. Kaufer-Hubert Memorial County Park is near Riviera and includes tidal flats and salt marshes. These places are not the same, and simply mentioning them does not mean there is a short walk between them. Check the weather, tides, opening hours, and any applicable use rules before your outing.

Choosing the Right Hotel

A hotel in Riviera can serve as a base for exploring local history or spending a day on the coast, if its specific location is suitable. Compare the address, travel arrangements, amenities, and availability of the individual listing. The town’s name and coastal surroundings do not establish that a hotel has a view or is located on the beach.
