Discover Haslet
Accommodation in Haslet
When planning a trip to Haslet, you can tailor your time to a range of interests: Haslet Community Park combines disc golf, sand volleyball, walking trails, and Tai Chi classes; John Gammill Park focuses on other park amenities. There are also seasonal events, regular programs for children, and traces of local history. When planning your schedule, it’s worth distinguishing between events held annually in December and programs that follow a weekly or school-year schedule. Check the latest details before making a particular date a fixed part of your trip.
Parks and Recreation
Haslet Community Park has an 18-hole disc golf course, a sand volleyball area, and walking trails. These offer different ways to be active: disc golf and volleyball provide a sporting focus, while the trails offer space for a walk. You can plan your visit around the activity that interests you rather than limiting the park to just one kind of use. Tai Chi classes are also offered there on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. If you’d like to plan your trip around a class, check the current schedule in advance.
John Gammill Park has a different focus: it features a fenced play area for people of all abilities, a covered pavilion, and public restrooms. These three features give you specific points of reference when learning about the park’s amenities. Since park amenities and trail conditions can change, check current city information before your visit.
Events Throughout the Year
Christmas in the Park takes place annually in December. National Night Out is a separate event. Event details may change, so it’s a good idea to check the date and program again before traveling.
Programs for Children
According to the current schedule, certified therapy dogs Bella and Honey visit Haslet Public Library twice a month during the school year. Children read to each dog for 15 minutes. The program therefore has its own clearly defined format and takes place at the library.
Mother Goose on the Loose Storytime is offered on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. at Haslet Community Center. The program includes music and movement, a sign language lesson, books, songs, and a craft. Story Yoga is also held at Haslet Community Center at 10:00 a.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. It is intended for toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers, and combines movement, yoga-inspired stretches, music, and sensory experiences. Both Wednesday programs share the same time and location, but differ in their content and in the explicitly stated target audience for Story Yoga.
Details about recurring programs may change. If you’d like to include one in your trip plans, check the current schedule in advance; programs held during the school year are especially tied to that period.
Traces of Local History
The development of the schools and the railroad is also part of Haslet’s history. Blue Mound School, later known as Haslet, was moved about half a mile north to the current site of the Haslet School Building. According to the account of the town’s name, Haslet is linked to Joel C. Harmmond, described as a railroad entrepreneur from Haslett, Michigan. The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway tracks were extended through the Haslet area in 1883.
Photographs of farms, schools, and churches at Haslet Public Library document the development of Haslet, Texas. Along with the history of the school and the recorded connection to railroad construction, these images offer a historical perspective distinct from today’s parks and seasonal programs. If you’d like to get to know Haslet through more than activities and events, these historical topics offer another starting point for planning your trip.
