A trip to North Richland Hills can be shaped by a range of interests: NRH2O and Adventure World Playground, cycling and hiking trails, or art and creative work. Concrete features can help you compare the options: trail lengths, surfaces, and connections can be weighed against one another; cultural and recreational facilities each offer their own focus.

Water Park, Playground, and Outdoor Art

NRH2O Family Water Park was the first municipal water park in Texas and one of the first in the country. Adventure World Playground offers a different focus: the fully accessible playground features shaded, forest-themed play structures for children of all abilities.

The Adventure World Art Trail runs along the Boardwalk east of Adventure World Playground. The exhibition changes periodically. If you are particularly interested in the works on display, you can check in advance to see what is currently on view.

Parks and Cycling Trails

Cross Timbers Park has a 9-hole disc golf course, as well as paved and unpaved hiking and cycling trails. Visitors who pay attention to trail surfaces when hiking or cycling can choose between the two; disc golf is another distinct reason to include the park in your outing plans.

The mountain biking trails at Fossil Creek Park cover about 5 miles of unpaved terrain through a riparian woodland preserve. They are suitable for beginner and advanced riders; helmets are required on the trails. Check conditions before riding.

There is also a bike playground and pump track in the southwest section of Fossil Creek Park.

Compare Trails by Length and Route

The North Electric Trail is 2 miles long, the Walker’s Creek Trail is 2.8 miles, and the Calloway Branch Trail is 5.2 miles. North Electric is therefore the shortest of the three trails listed, and Calloway Branch is the longest. North Electric connects to Walker’s Creek; Calloway Branch connects to John Barfield and Cotton Belt. The Calloway Branch route includes sections both away from and alongside roads.

Art, Creative Work, and Golf

The NRH Centre features two sculptures made from different materials and in different forms: Flower Log is made entirely of reclaimed steel parts joined by arc welding. Passion Flower is a 15-foot-tall kinetic sculpture made of stainless steel. The works thus differ in both their construction and their form.

The Maker Spot is a 4,500-square-foot makerspace on the second floor of the North Richland Hills Library. As a communal workspace, it allows library cardholders to create, explore, collaborate, and develop new ideas. Use is therefore tied to having a library card.

Iron Horse Golf Course is set in the hilly terrain of North Richland Hills. Dick Phelps originally designed the course; it opened in 1988. The year it opened and its original design give the golf course a distinct historical connection to the city.
