Pflugerville brings together parks and trails, water-based recreation, history, and community culture. Its attractions range from outdoor exercise and lake activities to historical insights and local traditions. A makerspace and a museum also offer different ways to explore the area during your stay.

Parks, Trails, and Recreation

Pfluger Park is a 30-acre community park with a pavilion and a playground area. A hiking and biking trail runs around the park and along Gilleland Creek. This means the park offers both open space and a route that takes in the park as well as the creek.

Pflugerville’s trail network is 56 miles long. This citywide figure provides a different perspective from the specific trail in Pfluger Park: it gives an overview of the trail network, while the park route loops around a single location. Both figures help put recreational trails in Pflugerville into perspective.

Gilleland Creek Park is home to the Great Pecan Tree, the largest pecan tree in Travis County. The park also has a junior Olympic-size swimming pool. The two distinct features at this location are a notable tree and a sports facility.

Central Park at Falcon Pointe is home to Pflugerville’s only disc golf course. It has nine holes. The park is a dedicated destination for disc golf, while Pfluger Park is chiefly known for its trails, pavilion, and playground area.

At Lake Pflugerville, you can take a kayak or canoe out on the water. Fishing is also possible from the fishing piers. The two activities differ in whether you want to be out on the water or fish from a pier.

History and Local Culture

One historical starting point is Henry Pfluger, who moved to Pflugerville with his large family in 1853. Later, the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railroad reached the area in 1904, after which the village began to grow. These two dates mark different milestones in the area’s history: first the family’s move, then the railroad’s arrival and the village’s subsequent growth.

The Heritage House Museum is located in Heritage Park in Pflugerville. Housed in the historic Bohls House, it offers insights into the city’s pioneer era. Its focus is on early history, while the information about Henry Pfluger and the railroad identifies specific milestones in that development.

The Fallen Warrior Memorial honors Pflugerville residents who gave their lives for their country. The memorial includes life-size bronze sculptures of warriors from three generations. The dedication and the sculptures represent different aspects of the memorial: they identify whom it honors and describe its design.

Pfab Lab is a makerspace with 3D printers, electronic circuits, sewing machines, and other craft supplies. Its equipment combines technical and electronic elements with sewing and craft materials. Pfab Lab thus complements the parks and historic sites with a distinct focus on creative work.

Deutschen Pfest is Pflugerville’s longest-running community tradition. It takes place in Pfluger Park. The park is therefore relevant both as a community park with a pavilion and playground area and as the venue for the festival.
