North Fork Park is a 2,600-acre camping and outdoor destination on the eastern side of the Wasatch Mountains. Activities include camping, Nordic activities, and hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. The park is also an International Dark Sky destination and one of nine International Dark Sky Parks in Utah. This makes outdoor recreation and the park’s special designation two distinct ways to plan your trip.

Trails, Water and Landscapes

Pineview Reservoir offers another way to spend time outdoors, with opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming and water skiing. The reservoir provides views of the surrounding mountains. Seasonal conditions and current facility notices apply to visits by the water. Day-use parking is available at Anderson Cove Campground, Cemetery Point and Middle Inlet. If you’re arriving by car, check parking availability and any construction notices in advance.

The Ogden River Parkway is about 4.4 miles long and serves as the main east-west Class I route. The Ogden Nature Center has 1.5 miles of walking trails. Ogden Valley also has interconnected, non-motorized trail networks for hikers and mountain bikers. They range from low-elevation valley canyons to high-alpine ridges; access and trail conditions may change seasonally.

Ski Resorts and Trails in Ogden Valley

Ogden Valley is home to three ski resorts: Snowbasin, Powder Mountain and Nordic Valley. The figures for Snowbasin and Powder Mountain show a significant difference in size: Snowbasin has 3,000 acres of ski area, while Powder Mountain has more than 8,464 acres of skiable terrain. Check operating conditions for each resort before your visit.

The trail offerings also differ. Snowbasin has nearly 50 miles of hiking and biking trails. Powder Mountain has more than 30 miles of free multi-use trails for hikers and cross-country mountain bikers; guided backcountry tours are also available there. Tours depend on the season and operator, and trail lengths and access may change with seasonal operations. Route 674 connects Ogden Station with Powder Mountain. Park-and-ride lots are located at Ogden Station, in Ogden Canyon and in Eden. Check the current schedule if you plan to use this connection.

Railroad History, Museums and Special Places

Ogden’s Union Station symbolizes the city’s role in American railroad history since the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. The station houses four museums: the Utah State Railroad Museum, the Browning Firearms Museum, the Browning Kimball Car Museum and the Utah Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Museum exhibits and operations may change; check current information before your visit.

Historic 25th Street is considered Ogden’s cultural and culinary center. Fort Buenaventura offers a different historical connection: Miles Goodyear built it in 1846, and it is considered Utah’s first and oldest settlement. Recreational offerings at the fort include camping, fishing, canoeing, a playground and an 18-hole championship disc golf course. The Memorial Day Mountain Man Rendezvous was also held there. Park facilities may change, so it’s a good idea to check current visitor information.

The George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park grounds include the main building, five exhibits, 70 dinosaur sculptures and other facilities. The museum there offers hands-on fossil-hunting experiences and displays several life-size dinosaur skeletons. The zip line called Glide Along has an ADA seat for children of all ages and abilities. As exhibits and facilities may change, check the latest details before your visit.

The Hill Aerospace Museum presents history with a focus on the United States Air Force, Hill Air Force Base and aviation in Utah, and offers unique learning experiences. The Ogden Nature Center is home to more than 20 native Utah raptors that cannot be released into the wild, as well as other animals, including snakes, salamanders, rabbits and tortoises. The animal population and programs may change over time.
