Jay: Trails, Winter Sports and Activities at Jay Peak
Accommodation in Jay
Activities in Jay range from hiking trails and mountain bike routes to snowmobiling and water and ice sports. There are also groomed cross-country ski trails, golf and disc golf at Jay Peak. When planning a stay, you can distinguish between outdoor trails, snow activities and recreation at the facilities.
Hiking and Mountain Biking
At Jay Peak, hiking ranges from easy, family-friendly trails to challenging routes. The trails are color-coded: green indicates easy, blue intermediate and black the most challenging trails. The color ratings provide a guide when comparing difficulty levels.
The beginner mountain bike loop is in the lower mountain area of Jay Peak and starts and ends in Tramside. The mountain bike network also includes mountain trails, wooded singletrack, gravel roads and multi-use trails.
The Jay Community Recreational Centre is on Cross Road, and its grounds cover more than 240 acres. During the warmer months, there are miles of trails for walking, hiking and mountain biking.
The locations offer different considerations when choosing a route: At Jay Peak, color codes make it easier to compare difficulty levels, and the beginner mountain bike loop has a named start and finish point in Tramside. At the Community Recreational Centre, by contrast, the seasonal timing of the warmer months is important.
Snow, Water and Ice
Snowmobiling is available on VAST trails in Jay. The Jay Peak Nordic Center trail network includes 12 miles of groomed trails for classic cross-country skiing and skate skiing, and caters to beginners and advanced skiers. This offers a choice between snowmobiling on trails and cross-country skiing on groomed trails as distinct snow activities.
The Jay Peak ski area includes 81 trails, runs and gladed ski areas. If you are planning to ski or snowboard, check the current operating status before your trip.
The Pump House Indoor Waterpark has waterslides. The Big River offers a different experience: rapids, bursting waves and strong currents occur around several bends. The waterpark and ice arena therefore offer different types of activities.
The Ice Haus has an NHL-sized ice rink and public skating. Check the current public skate schedule before visiting.
Jay Peak Resort has an 18-hole golf course. The disc golf course at Jay Peak offers panoramic views, elevation changes, wooded and open fairways, and water hazards. The Jay Peak Aerial Tram offers views across Vermont and a small part of Canada; it is the only one of its kind in Vermont.
When planning, you can match your travel dates to your preferred activities: The warmer months are relevant for trails at the Jay Community Recreational Centre; if you plan to ski, check the current operating status.
