Windsor brings together historic architecture and manufacturing history with craftsmanship and outdoor experiences. If you are looking for a hotel in Windsor, these different highlights can help you choose a destination that suits your interests during your stay. Highlights include a self-guided walking tour, a museum dedicated to precision manufacturing, trails in Paradise Park and opportunities for birdwatching.

Walking Tour, Craftsmanship and Precision Manufacturing

The self-guided Windsor walking tour includes more than 40 historic buildings. A comprehensive guide helps you find your way and is available at the library, at the Historic Windsor offices in Windsor House or at the Welcome Center. Six signs provide additional information about twelve locations. The QR codes on the signs take smartphone users to additional audio files.

At Artisan's Park, you can see how unique, one-of-a-kind pieces are made and meet the artists. The American Precision Museum offers a different perspective on manufacturing and technology. Its collection includes machine tools, measuring tools and other precision instruments used primarily in manufacturing, as well as some products of precision manufacturing. The focus differs: Artisan's Park highlights the making of individual pieces and meeting the artists, while the museum focuses on tools and products of precision manufacturing.

The American Precision Museum is housed in a brick building constructed in 1846, which Robbins & Lawrence originally commissioned as an armory. The Robbins & Lawrence Armory is a National Historic Landmark in Windsor, Vermont. The historic building and the collection thus offer two different ways to explore history: the building's former use and the manufacturing reflected in the tools and products in the collection.

Trails, Fishing and Birdwatching

Paradise Park offers several ways to enjoy the outdoors. It has numerous easy, accessible hiking trails. A color-coded map shows hiking trails, carriage roads and habitats, helping you include the marked routes and natural areas in your plans. Lake Runnemede, also called Evarts Pond, is located in the park and can be used for fishing. Birdwatching is also possible in Paradise Park.

Hikers and walkers visit the Windsor Grasslands Wildlife Management Area year-round. The area is known for birdwatching; more than 100 species have been observed across its varied habitats. The Grasslands area thus focuses on year-round walking and birdwatching, while Paradise Park also provides specific information about trail types and fishing.

Regional History

In the wider region, the Old Constitution House focuses on the history of the Windsor area. For more than a century, it has collected rare and unusual objects from the area. Its focus therefore differs from the precision manufacturing featured at the American Precision Museum: here, the regional origins of unusual objects take center stage.
