Wise: Hotels for Concerts, Art, and Nature

During a stay in Wise, events, architecture, art, and outdoor activities can each shape your plans. You can tailor your search for a hotel in Wise to the interests that matter to your stay.

Events and Culture

The Town of Wise hosts free outdoor concerts at the Big Glades Amphitheater. Sporting events take place at the David J. Prior Convocation Center. For concerts or other convention events, the center offers 3,600 seats. The Famous Fall Fling combines arts and crafts with music: arts and crafts vendors line the streets, and the event also features two days of live bluegrass, country, and gospel music at the Big Glades Amphitheater. You can plan your stay around a concert, sporting event, or the Famous Fall Fling’s music program. If you’re traveling for a specific event, check its date in advance.

The Gilliam Center for the Arts at UVA Wise offers events, performances, and exhibitions. The Pro-Art series is a local entertainment option. In Wise County, the Charles W. Harris Gallery hosts monthly exhibitions of contemporary art. These offer a range of cultural formats: events and performances at the Gilliam Center, local entertainment, and regular gallery exhibitions. The gallery’s focus on contemporary art differs from the stage offerings. The Famous Fall Fling features two days of live music, while the gallery hosts monthly exhibitions of contemporary art.

Architecture and Outdoor Activities

The Wise County Courthouse offers an architectural point of interest. Completed in 1896 in the Renaissance Revival style, it features two towers and detailed masonry. The year marks when it was completed, while the towers and masonry describe its specific design features.

Hiking is one of the recreational activities in Wise. Trails around Wise Lake Reservoir let you explore the surrounding mixed forests. Anglers and picnickers also use the reservoir. This makes forest trails and activities at the reservoir distinct ways to spend time outdoors. You can reserve a picnic shelter at Arrowhead Park. If you plan to use one, check the reservation details in advance. The Gateway Gardens also feature a LOVE sign.

Find a Hotel That Fits Your Trip

When searching for a hotel in Wise, you can start with the interests shaping your stay. A specific event, an interest in contemporary art or architecture, and time on hiking trails each offer a different focus. For planning purposes, it helps to consider these separately: event dates depend on a specific event, while the courthouse and gallery offer their own cultural and architectural themes.
