Clarksburg offers a range of things to explore: theater history, historic neighborhoods, parks, trails, and event venues. You can shape your trip around whether you’re more interested in the city’s development, cultural offerings, or spending time outdoors. The following places bring these themes to life.

Theater, Streets, and City History

The Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center is a fully restored and renovated historic theater dating from 1913. The Robinson Grand Theater first opened its doors on February 7, 1913.

Clarksburg’s historic downtown district includes West Main Street and West Pike Street, with their commercial buildings. Downtown also features buildings and homes in 19th- and 20th-century styles. At Quality Hill, the focus shifts to residential architecture: the historic district on East Main Street includes numerous homes that are at least a century old. If you’re tracing the city’s history through its buildings, you’ll find both commercial buildings and homes with an explicitly stated minimum age here.

The Clarksburg History Museum preserves oral histories and makes personal collections accessible. It is wheelchair accessible, with parking nearby. If you’d rather learn about cultural history through personal memories and collections than through streetscapes, the museum offers a different thematic perspective.

The Stonewall Jackson Tour passes Clarksburg landmarks and ends at attractions downtown. If the tour is important to your itinerary, check the current booking or operating arrangements in advance.

Parks and Trails

Lowndes Hill Park covers 58 acres and overlooks Clarksburg. It is located off 2nd Street above Main Street. Its features include Civil War trenches and earthworks built by the Union Army to defend the city and its important railroad. The park thus combines views of Clarksburg with a specific connection to the city’s defense history.

The 1.5-mile Mayor’s Fitness Trail is a gravel path around Veterans Memorial Park, offering views of the river. People’s Hospice Memorial Gardens is a landscaped section of the park. Features there include brick paths, statues, private garden areas, wooden shelters, benches, trees, and shrubs.

The Harrison North Rail Trail takes a different route, heading north from North View in Clarksburg along the West Fork River, through dense woodland with occasional views of the water. Trail surface conditions can change; check current trail conditions before your visit.

Events and Recreation

The Clarksburg Amphitheater presents bands, films, plays, and other entertainment throughout the year. Programs change over time. If a particular performance is important to your trip, check the dates in advance.

Splash Zone is a water park with a capacity of 385,000 gallons, a lazy river, water slides, a 25-meter competition pool, and a zero-depth play area for children. Facilities may operate seasonally; check opening hours before your visit.
