Ebbs offers something for a range of travel interests: wildlife, Haflinger breeding, trails and church architecture. If you’re looking for a hotel in Ebbs, it’s best to start by considering the purpose of your stay. These places and details can help you decide what to focus on—from the zoo of rare species at the foot of the Zahmer Kaiser to historic churches and a past sporting event.

Wildlife and Haflinger breeding

The Ebbs zoo of rare species has been set in a natural environment at the foot of the Zahmer Kaiser since 1991. This connects the nature theme with a specific landscape. If wildlife is a priority for you, you can weigh it against Haflinger breeding, hiking trails and church architecture.

Fohlenhof Ebbs is the oldest Haflinger stud farm in the world and a centre of international Haflinger breeding. A visit includes around 100 Haflingers, two indoor riding arenas and the Fohlenhof Arena, with seating for more than 3,500. Traditional festivals, breeding events and displays are also held at Fohlenhof. When planning, you can distinguish between a focus on breeding and attending an event as the main purpose of your visit. If a particular event is a key factor in your stay, check the relevant dates before travelling.

Trails and sporting events

The Ebbser Koasamarsch combines trail running and hiking in the Kaisergebirge. The event held on Saturday, 13 June 2026, was the 56th edition and included three trail-running distances of 20, 33 and 55 kilometres, as well as four hiking routes of 4.2, 12, 20 and 33 kilometres. The range of distances at this past edition ran from the shortest hiking route, at 4.2 kilometres, to the longest trail-running distance, at 55 kilometres. The 56th edition is evidence of the march’s long history. In 2026, the 20- and 33-kilometre distances overlapped across both disciplines.

The Kaisertal ascent starts in Ebbs-Eichelwang and leads up around 280 steps. The hike to Tischofer Cave at the entrance to the Kaisertal also starts in Ebbs-Eichelwang. It is rated easy and takes 45 minutes one way, or 45 minutes per direction. This information helps with different planning questions: the steps are a useful reference for the Kaisertal ascent, while the cave hike also has a difficulty rating and a walking time for each direction. The operator also warns of hazards when conditions are wet; bear this in mind when planning your hike.

Churches and architectural history

St. Nicholas Church in Ebbs was originally a castle chapel. The parish church in Ebbs was built between 1748 and 1756 in place of the Gothic church. The listed “Ebbser Dom” is a highlight in Ebbs. These religious landmarks complement nature and outdoor activities with historical perspectives for your stay.
