Sankt Konrad: Discover hiking and culture
Accommodation in Sankt Konrad
When planning a trip to Sankt Konrad, hiking, mountain views and cultural sites take centre stage. The trails differ in length, starting point and character: choose from two easy panoramic trails, a high-altitude hike and longer tours with different destinations. You can first consider which trail length and views are important for planning your trip.
Hiking trails by length and character
The Kleine Panoramaweg is 4.6 kilometres long and starts at the car park by the St. Konrad swimming lake. It is considered easy and is also suitable for pushchairs. The GroĂźe Panoramaweg starts from the same car park. At 7 kilometres, it is longer, is also rated easy and is suitable for pushchairs. When comparing these two trails, both therefore share the same starting point and the stated characteristics; the main difference is the trail length.
The 7.2-kilometre Hacklberg Höhenweg is described as a high-altitude hike. It starts at the car park by the St. Konrad swimming lake and offers views of the mountains of the Almtal valley and the Totes Gebirge mountain range. Another tour starting from this point is the Laudachseerunde: it goes via Schrattenau to Laudachsee and back, and is 17.9 kilometres long in total. Its destination and considerably greater length set it apart from the panoramic trails and the Hacklberg Höhenweg.
There are several possible starting points in St. Konrad for a mountain hike to Steineck: the car park by the swimming lake, the St. Konrad DĂĽrnberg bus stop or the car park next to the B 120. Starting from the car park by the swimming lake, the hike offers sweeping panoramic views as far as the MĂĽhlviertel region. By contrast, the Reisenberg-Rundweg starts at the Kranichsteg inn. It is 5.8 kilometres long, is considered a sunny-side circuit and offers views of Traunstein. Before setting out, it is advisable to check the latest trail details.
Culture and history in Sankt Konrad
The RĂĽpelfelder fields are located near the destination, in Schrattenau above St. Konrad. According to tradition, they are considered evidence of an early indigenous population. The core of St. Konrad parish church dates back to the Late Gothic period. If you are planning a visit, it is best to confirm access on site beforehand.
The “Global Home” cultural trail is a themed trail in St. Konrad. The cultural project includes a sculpture by Herbert Egger in the form of a house made of wooden slats. Its design leaves room for plant and animal life to move in. The theme combines artistic design with the idea of a house that also provides a habitat for nature.
From 21 June 2024, photographs from “Eyes as big as Plates” by Karoline Hjorth and Riita Ikonen were on display along the 7-Brücken-Weg between the swimming lake and the Gasthof Silbermair. The project comprises four portraits of people from St. Konrad and four of people from distant countries. The participants were transformed into figures at locations of their own choosing, blending into their surroundings.
