If you’re looking for a hotel in Bürs, the local trails and attractions can help you get a feel for what your stay might be like. Bürs offers a range of ways to enjoy the outdoors: circular trails with storytelling stops, a trail through the Bürs Gorge, routes with specific landmarks, a climbing garden and a sledding hill. The destinations differ in theme and route, and some have a stated duration. You can plan your trip around what you’d like to do.

Circular Trails and Gorge

The Märchen- & Sagenweg (Fairy Tale and Legend Trail) is a circular trail that takes about an hour. Several stops feature well-known fairy tales, local legends and interesting facts about nature. A trail leads through the Bürs Gorge, a natural monument, and returns to Bürs via the Kuhloch in about two hours. For planning your time, you can compare the roughly one-hour Märchen- & Sagenweg with the approximately two-hour trail through the gorge and back to Bürs. One trail combines a circular route with stories and nature themes; the other passes through the gorge and returns via the Kuhloch.

Starting Points and Routes

The “Biotop Schloss Rosenegg” circular trail starts at the municipal office in Bürs and passes the Martinskirche. The short circular trail around the biotope by Schloss Rosenegg has been refurbished, and benches invite you to linger. The Illweg starts at Zimbapark in Bürs and follows the Ill through the municipality. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their landmarks: the municipal office and Martinskirche on one, and Zimbapark and the Ill on the other. The Rosenegg circular trail also features the short loop around the biotope and its benches.

Climbing and Sledding

The Bürs climbing garden offers extreme sport-climbing routes, numerous intermediate routes and a few easy classic routes. The conglomerate rock has many holes, sharp-edged pebbles and ledges. Two distinct aspects help describe the climbing garden: the distribution of routes by difficulty and the specific character of the rock. If you’re including climbing in your travel plans, you can take both into account.

Schass-Glareu is an unprepared sledding hill for families with small children. Unlike the circular trails and climbing garden, sledding is the main activity here. You can consider it a separate activity alongside the trails and climbing; the fact that the hill is unprepared is also part of what defines it.

Geology and History

“Bürs conglomerate” has become a geological term because it is typically found in the Bürs Gorge. The name thus links a specific natural area in Bürs with a geological term. If you’re interested in the landscape as well as the trails, this offers another perspective on the gorge.

The history of the road from Bürs to Bürserberg is also part of the area’s travel history. It was built during the First World War with the help of prisoners of war. Further construction towards Brand began in 1928, and the road’s opening gave tourism an important boost. This history explicitly links the road’s construction and later expansion with tourism.
