Local History, Churches and Routes

Dalaas Parish Church is late Gothic and dates from the 15th or 16th century; it was remodelled in the 18th century. The Holy Cross Church in the village centre offers a different historical reference point: it dates from 1746. These two churches let you compare different periods in the village’s history. The Historical Architecture Tour introduces old Waldner houses, their former residents and the origins of historic house names and nicknames along the route.

The historic Sonnenhalb estate is another part of the local cultural heritage. The Mariahilf Chapel stands west of the estate. It has a gabled roof and its own bell, and dates from the 18th century. The altarpiece of Mariahilf from the same period has survived to this day. The railway is another chapter in the village’s history: Dalaas station opened in 1884 and was destroyed by the Muttentobel avalanche on 12 January 1954. A memorial east of the newly built station building commemorates the victims of the 1954 avalanche disaster.

The village walking trail starts behind the municipal office. It heads down the valley along the Alfenz stream, passes the outdoor swimming pool and Dalaas sports ground, and continues towards St Oswald Parish Church. The section from the municipal office to a point level with the Gasthof Krone is suitable for prams. In addition to swimming, the outdoor pool offers table tennis, trampolining and a poolside kiosk.

Winter Activities in Dalaas

The first section of the Alfenz cross-country ski trail starts directly opposite the Kristbergsaal in Dalaas. The trail runs mainly along the Alfenz stream to the valley station of the Sonnenkopf cable car and is considered snow-reliable. Snow conditions and daily grooming may vary. You can reach the trail on Landbus route L720, getting off at the “Kristbergsaal Dalaas” stop; check the timetable before travelling.

The Dalaas-Hetzel toboggan run is a groomed sledding hill and is considered suitable for families with children. Grooming depends on winter weather and local conditions. From the Kristbergsaal, you can walk to the toboggan run via the Poller district in 15 minutes. This makes it easy to distinguish between cross-country skiing and sledding as winter activities: the trail follows the Alfenz stream, while the sledding hill is reached via the route through Poller.

Mountain Destinations, Lake and Climbing

The “Stebok Wäg” leads from Dalaas to Lake Formarin and the Freiburger Hütte mountain hut. When planning a mountain hike, take changing conditions into account. Another point of interest is Lake Spuller in Vorarlberg: it was originally a natural high-altitude lake. The Austrian Federal Railways dammed it between 1919 and 1925 in connection with the electrification of the Arlberg railway; since then, it has been used to generate energy.

There are numerous hiking routes at and around Lake Spuller, and the lake is also a popular fishing spot. Local fishing regulations may apply. You can reach the lake on foot from the Klostertal valley. From Lech am Arlberg, the paid Lech Seen hiking bus, route 706 to Lake Spuller, goes there; the lake is also accessible by bicycle through the Zugertal valley. Road, bus and access arrangements may vary seasonally, so check them before your trip.

At the Spullerplatten climbing garden, the “Untere Spullerplatten” and “Obere Spullerplatten” sectors are in the slabby rock to the left of the path towards the Ravensburger Hütte. The southeast-facing climbing wall gets enough warmth for climbing as early as spring. The mountain activities described here therefore differ both in character and in their stated starting points and conditions.
