Marul offers several clearly distinct themes to consider when planning a stay: the forest adventure trail, hikes to named destinations, and buildings with their own history. If you’re looking for a hotel in Marul, you can first consider whether you want to spend your days mainly hiking, exploring the Faludriga-Nova nature reserve, or visiting local cultural sites. Differences in route lengths, hiking destinations and seasonal sales are practical details to consider when planning your days.

Trails for different kinds of hiking days

The Marul forest adventure trail offers two route options: one is 3.4 kilometres long and the other 5.6 kilometres. This gives you a clear difference in the distance to cover when planning your day. The trail invites you to hike, linger, play and take part in creative activities. Another hiking option follows the Marulbach to the Fuchswaldalpe. It starts at the Marul hiking car park and follows the stream to its destination. Trail conditions for this hike can vary with the season; check them before setting off.

The direct comparison answers two different planning questions: on the forest adventure trail, you choose between route lengths; on the Marulbach hike, the Fuchswaldalpe is the specific destination. This lets you decide whether the distance or the hiking destination matters more for your day.

Mountain trail into the Faludriga-Nova core zone

Another hiking destination lies in the Faludriga Alpe area: a mountain trail leads through the Alpe into the Faludriga-Nova nature reserve, which is also a core zone of the biosphere park. To hike to the Faludriga-Nova core zone, take Landbus L575 to the “Marul Kirche” stop. If you plan to use this bus service, check the timetable in advance, as services may change. The hike thus connects a named natural destination with a specific stop for your journey there.

Building history and art

The Kuratienkirche Hl. Katharina in Marul was built around 1670. In 1948, Mila Bjelik-Stöhr designed the stained-glass windows in the choir; a year later, in 1949, architect Anton Rhomberg restored the church. The design and restoration work took place close together in time, while the church itself is much older.

The Hubertus Chapel has a different story of origin: particularly active members of the Catholic Rural Youth (KLJ) at the time built it in 1963 in the Engel parcel. The chapel is located on the forest adventure trail, next to a reconstructed lime kiln. Together, these sites offer different historical points of reference: the older Kuratienkirche, with its stained-glass windows and restoration, and the later-built chapel along the hiking trail.

Seasonal information about the organic dairy

The season matters for the Marul organic dairy: during the winter months, it is open every morning. In summer, sales take place at the Käsehüsli by the Marul hiking car park. The car park is therefore both the starting point for the hike along the Marulbach and the location of summer sales. If you plan to include both in your day, check the seasonal sales information and trail conditions before travelling.
