Mineralni Bani – Thermal Springs, Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Mineralni Bani
Mineralni Bani brings together a range of attractions for a stay: natural hot springs, nature trails and rock structures from different periods. Cultural offerings also range from an exhibition to a monument dating back to Roman times. The sites and landscapes offer a variety of focal points for planning your trip.
Thermal Springs and Local Attractions
The thermal area includes numerous natural hot springs stretching across about 500 metres. A visitor installation includes small mineral-water pools with benches, where you can dip your feet in the water. The extent of the thermal area and the individual pools offer two different perspectives on the mineral water.
The terrarium in Toplika Park has a permanent exhibition featuring amphibians and reptiles. At Chifte Banya, two large metal showers put on a laser light show in the evening. Each attraction has its own focus: one showcases animals and an exhibition, while the other centres on an evening light display.
Bogoroditsa Step is a preserved attraction from Roman times, carved into natural rock. It is located in the centre of Mineralni Bani, five metres from the first mineral spring. The monument is two metres long, one metre deep and 0.75 metres wide. These dimensions give a concrete sense of the size of the rock structure.
Eco-Trails and Landscape
There are six eco-trails in the Municipality of Mineralni Bani, covering natural and cultural attractions. Along the trails are rest areas with benches, gazebos and places for outdoor barbecues. Many of these spots offer panoramic views towards the eastern Rhodope Mountains. The “Mineralni Bani–Aikaas” eco-route is 7.75 kilometres long.
An asphalt road connects Mineralni Bani to Mount Aida over a distance of eight kilometres. The tourist hut is located there and can also be reached via a marked hiking route. The 7.75 kilometres of the named eco-route and the eight kilometres of the road connection refer to different routes and modes of transport.
Aikaas lies on the western slope of the Mechkovets ridge, below a natural rocky outcrop. From there, the view extends for more than 30 kilometres towards the Rhodope Mountains. The forests include deciduous, beech and oak woodland; they are home to numerous bird species, as well as roe deer, deer and wild boar. Aikaas is considered easily accessible to visitors of all ages and suitable for family tourism and recreation.
The Sharapani locality also combines landscape and history: from there, panoramic views extend to the slopes of the eastern Rhodope Mountains, the Trakiets Reservoir and the Haskovo Plain. The monuments carved into the rock there date from the Iron Age and are 2,600 to 2,800 years old. The Sharapani rock installations consist of two irregular basins with sloping floors and a channel.
