Nature and historic sites offer different highlights for your trip.

Nature and Activities in the Surrounding Area

The surrounding area offers opportunities for leisurely walks, fishing in the Ilova and local sports ponds, and hunting in the surrounding forests. Cyclists can include the regional cycling route in their plans: it passes through Grubišno Polje and connects Bjelovar, Čazma, Garešnica, Daruvar and Grubišno Polje. The Izletište Bara recreation area covers about three hectares and is surrounded by forest. It includes two sports fishing ponds and walking paths. Beach volleyball and small-sided football pitches, as well as sports, cultural and entertainment events throughout the year, are also part of the offering. Cultural History and Religious Traditions

The Church of St George the Great Martyr was built between 1773 and 1775 and is protected as a historic monument. The Church of St Joseph in Grubišno Polje was built in 1782. The archaeological site of Šuma Obrovi offers further insight into the area’s history. It includes archaeological sites in Grubišno Polje and nearby Mala Peratovica, among them late medieval fortifications and a former church with a cemetery.

Marinje is also part of the town’s religious tradition. The celebration was established in 1900 as a parish feast in honour of the Name of Mary and developed in the early 20th century into an important Marian celebration and pilgrimage in Bjelovar-Bilogora County. It is the parish’s largest celebration and takes place on the Sunday after 12 September. The exact annual programme may vary; check the dates for the year of your trip if you would like to plan your stay around the celebration.

Mato Lovrak City Library dates back to a reading room established in 1881, where residents read newspapers, magazines and books. The library includes a local history collection as well as rooms for cultural and educational programmes, lectures and exhibitions. The dr. Franjo Tuđman Cultural and Information Centre is Grubišno Polje’s main cultural institution and hosts cultural and social events throughout the year. A cultural route called Tragovima Ivana Nepomuka Jemeršića was held in Grubišno Polje in 2023.
