Pavlovac: Chapels, Kolo and Motorsport History
Accommodation in Pavlovac
Pavlovac brings together several distinct themes for a stay: religious buildings, the fortified earthwork Kolo and motorsport. When looking for a hotel in Pavlovac, you can choose what to focus on: church art, archaeological traces or the history of a motocross track. These themes provide a starting point for planning your trip without prescribing a fixed itinerary.
Chapels and Building History
The present-day brick Chapel of Saint Panteleimon in Pavlovac was built in 1905/06. It houses an iconostasis created by Jovan Četirević-Grabovan in 1778. The iconostasis is therefore significantly older than the present-day brick chapel—the building and its furnishings date from different periods.
Religious buildings associated with Pavlovac also include the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul and the subsidiary Chapel of Saint Panteleimon. Residents built the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul in 1912; historically, it belonged to the parish of Veliki Grđevac. Its building history thus links its construction date with an earlier ecclesiastical affiliation.
Kolo: A Fortified Earthwork
The fortified earthwork Kolo lies in a wooded area north of Pavlovac, between the Česma River, the old Česma railway station and Roviški konak forest. An archaeological field survey published in 2012 gives the diameter of the circular central mound as 40 to 50 metres. Two ditches and ramparts are visible.
This makes Kolo a distinct archaeological subject from the chapels: the focus here is an earthen structure, its shape and its visible defensive features. Its location between the named landmarks and the measured mound offer different points of reference for understanding the earthwork.
Motocross and Walking Routes
In the wider destination of Općina Veliki Grđevac, the motocross track in Pavlovac was established in 2011 and inaugurated with a race at its official opening. A report dated February 19, 2025, describes Moto Klub Pavlovac using the track next to Seoski dom for training. Earlier official competitions at the track attracted thousands of people. This distinguishes the 2011 opening, the earlier competitions and the training use described in the 2025 report.
A one-kilometre walking path has also been completed in Pavlovac. Its length offers a practical reference for planning a walk; check its current condition before visiting.

The parish church of the Holy Spirit in Veliki Grđevac was built in 1832/33, after the parish was restored in 1789. The church features elements of the late Baroque and Classicist styles. This church provides another point of reference for the history of religion in the wider destination of Općina Veliki Grđevac.
“Lovrakovi dani kulture” has been held in Veliki Grđevac since 1987 in honour of the writer Mato Lovrak. Its annual programme combines educational, cultural, tourism and sports activities; the specific activities vary from one edition to the next. Check the dates and programme for the relevant year before your trip.
The “Staza prijatelja prirode” was created for walks in Općina Veliki Grđevac. It opened on September 6, 2022, is about 600 metres long and includes information panels and a viewpoint. It is shorter than the one-kilometre walking path in Pavlovac; check the current condition of both paths before visiting.
