Waterfalls, mills and trails

Roški slap is an extensive waterfall area. The main falls are 22.5 metres high; numerous watercourses, cascades and travertine islands are also part of its landscape. Several watermills stand on the left bank, some of which are still in operation. Visitors can see watermills, columns and a loom at Roški slap. The mill complex is one of the most interesting and valuable ethnographic monuments in Dalmatia and Croatia.

An 8.5-kilometre trail leads from wetlands to a centuries-old forest of European hornbeam and downy oak. During bird migration, the wetlands are considered one of Europe’s most important bird sanctuaries. The Lugareva kuća education centre is located in the forest along the trail. Another notable waterfall is Manojlovački slap: its total height is 59.6 metres, and its highest travertine barrier measures 32.2 metres.

On the Pištavac Trail, the path descends a steep slope through lush greenery to the water. Along the way, you can hear birds and the choruses of amphibians. The trail conditions and steep descent give the walk a different character from views of the waterfall area and its mills.

Roman Burnum and archaeological finds

The Roman military camp of Burnum was built around the turn of the era. At the archaeological site, visitors can see the arches of the command building and several walls of the military training ground. Croatia’s only surviving military amphitheatre is located in the area of the village of Ivoševci. Finds from Burnum—including weapons, tools and everyday objects—are displayed at Eko kampus Puljane.

According to official visitor information, the archaeological site of Burnum and its collection are open to visitors year-round. Burnum is accessible only by road; routes lead there from Skradin, Drniš or Knin. Check the latest visitor information before your trip.

Krka Monastery and Oziđana pećina

Krka Monastery is located in Carigradska draga; a Byzantine-style church stands beside the monastery. At Oziđana pećina, continuous human presence has been documented from 6000 to 1500 BC; an archaeological collection has also been set up in situ there. In Krka National Park, caves and pits are closed to visitors, with the exception of Oziđana pećina.

There is an outdoor car park at the start of the Pištavac Trail. The gravel path descends steeply to the Krka River and returns by the same route.
