Bjerge on Jammerland Bay: Beach and Nature
Accommodation in Bjerge
Bjerge on Jammerland Bay appeals to travellers who want to put beaches and nature at the heart of their trip. The coastline includes several named stretches, while protected landscapes and a diverse birdlife also define the area. When looking for a hotel in Bjerge, these different features can help you plan your stay around swimming, nature, or walking routes and fishing opportunities.
Coast and bathing beach
The stretch of coast along Jammerland Bay is about 9 km long. It runs from Råmosegrøften via Ugerløse Strand and Svallerup Strand to Bjerge Nord- and Sydstrand, and then on to Sukkerkanalen. This places Bjerge within a longer coastline that includes several beach sections.
Bjerge Sydstrand has shallow, calm water and is suitable for swimming with the family. At the southern end of the beach, there is a beach volleyball court and a playground. For anyone planning a beach visit, this clearly named stretch offers these two facilities as well as a bathing area.
Natural environment and birdlife
Reersø Vejle and Flasken form a 285 ha area that has been protected since 1979. At Flasken, the area is designated as a bird protection area; it is home to a rich and diverse birdlife throughout the year. The Halleby Å at Bjerge Sydstrand is part of Åmosen/Tissø Nature Park. Protected landscapes, birdlife and the river show different sides of the nature around Bjerge. The approximately 9 km refers to the length of the coastline, while the 285 ha refers to the area of Reersø Vejle and Flasken. These are two different scales to bear in mind: a length along the coast and the size of a protected area.
Paths and access
Paths on both sides of Sukkerkanalen lead to the bathing beach on Jammerland Bay. There is also an accessible path along the canal. Entry to Fællesfolden is not permitted; however, you can walk along the shore to the outlet of the Halleby Å.
On the Bjerge Sydstrand–Reersø route, a sandbar slightly offshore must be crossed at the outlet of Flasken. Wading is at your own risk. Water depth and crossing conditions can vary, so check them before wading across this stretch.
Fishing and a break
You can fish for free in Sukkerkanalen. Bjerge Klint also offers good fishing opportunities. At FĂĄrehuset, there are tables and benches where visitors can enjoy food and drinks. Fishing opportunities at two named locations and a described place to sit are also useful details for planning your stay.
