Strandhuse lies by the Isefjord between Annebjerg Skov and Ulkerup Skov. When looking for a hotel in Strandhuse, possible focal points include the bathing area, the forest trails, and the historical traces of Ulkerup Landsby. Routes range from a marked hiking trail in Ulkerup Skov to longer hiking and cycling routes; cycle route 40 also passes through the village. Whether you are planning time by the water, a hike, or a longer trip can be gauged more precisely from the specific routes and their lengths.

Swimming in the Isefjord

The 2023 municipal bathing water profile lists a bathing area with a sandy beach at Strandhuse on the Isefjord. The Isefjord borders Strandhuse to the east; there is public access to the fjord from Strandhuse. The coast between Strandhuse and Sidinge Fjord is exposed to the Isefjord. This means that a specific bathing spot and a longer exposed stretch of coastline offer different points of reference for spending time by the water.

Trails and activities

A yellow-marked hiking trail in Ulkerup Skov is 4.5 kilometres long and passes many of the forest’s attractions. Hiking route 122 is longer, at 11.3 kilometres, and runs through Annebjerg Skov, Ulkerup Overdrev, and Ulkerup Skov. This offers a clear comparison when choosing a route: the shorter trail focuses on Ulkerup Skov, while route 122 takes in three named areas.

The Fjordsti hiking route starts in Strandhuse and is 152.6 kilometres long. This makes it considerably longer than the forest trails of 4.5 and 11.3 kilometres. Cycle route 40, Fjordstien, also passes through Strandhuse. A 60-kilometre tour along the west bank of the Isefjord passes Ulkerup Skov and Annebjerg Skov and can be divided into three daily stages.

There are designated bridleways in Ulkerup Skov, on Ulkerup Overdrev, and in Annebjerg Skov. There are no marked mountain biking routes in Annebjerg Skov or Ulkerup Skov. The route through Anneberg Skov to Nykøbing can be travelled on foot or by bicycle.

Village history and Ulkerup

Strandhuse is a village of fishermen’s and farmhouses and originally developed as a small fishing village. Ulkerup Landsby was established around 1300 and lies in the middle of Ulkerup Skov. The protected site of the former village is home to seven ceramic figures, the hooded “Ulkerup-sjæle.” They illustrate the mythical story of the people whom Christian VII forcibly relocated from their forest village in 1782. The dates refer to different historical chapters: around 1300 to the founding of the village, and 1782 to the forced relocation featured in the story of the figures.
