Chropyně brings together a range of reasons to visit: historic castle rooms, church art, a traditional legend, a distinctive pond landscape and a seasonal outdoor swimming pool. Which side of the town you would like to get to know better can shape your travel plans. For a first overview, the history inside the castle offers a different focus from the nature around Chropyňský rybník.

Castle history and Hanácké slavnosti

Public tours of the historic interiors of Zámek Chropyně offer an insight into the castle. The rooms on the first floor present the history of Chropyně from prehistoric times. The second floor commemorates Emil Filla, who was from Chropyně and worked as a painter, sculptor and graphic artist. This means the castle offers two different historical perspectives: the development of the town and the commemoration of an artist from Chropyně.

Hanácké slavnosti are also part of the town’s cultural history. They have been held in Chropyně since 1985, and have taken place every odd-numbered year since then. If you would like to combine your trip with the festival, check the date for the year of your trip. The event should therefore not be planned as an annual fixture.

Another cultural story is the legend of King Ječmínek. It is thought likely to have reached Chropyně with the Ludanicer family, who came from Hungary and owned Chropyně in the 15th century. The legend is also associated with the Arpádovci, Hungary’s first ruling dynasty. The origin of the tradition is explicitly attributed to them only as a likelihood.

Church art at Kostel sv. Jiljí

Kostel sv. Jiljí was built in 1772 in the Baroque style known as the Josephine style. Among its notable works of art is a baptismal font by an unknown artist. It depicts the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, using life-size figures. The date of construction and design give the church building its own art-historical significance; the baptismal font adds a depiction of a religious subject. If you are interested in architecture and religious art, these are two distinct details to look out for.

Chropyňský rybník and circular trail

Chropyňský rybník is a pond where water chestnut grows and a wide variety of birds can be found. The plant and birdlife are specific natural features that make the area of interest to visitors drawn to landscapes and biodiversity. From the castle side, the “Okolo Chropyně” educational trail joins a green-marked hiking route, then follows a circular path around Chropyňský rybník. This lets you combine information about nature and the landscape with a described route, without implying any particular walking time or level of difficulty.

Seasonal outdoor swimming pool and travel

The outdoor swimming pool in Chropyně is open seasonally from May to September. In May and June, it is open Monday to Friday from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on weekends from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. In July and August, the pool is open daily from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. In September, the hours are again 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday to Friday and 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. If you are planning a visit to the pool, compare the opening hours with your travel dates.

Chropyně is served by regular bus connections. For your arrival or departure, it is a good idea to check the service for the day you will be travelling. Together with the pool’s seasonal opening hours and the date of Hanácké slavnosti, this gives you a practical overview of the time-sensitive aspects of your plans.
