Accommodation in Babindol
Babindol lies in the central part of the Žitavská pahorkatina hills and in the valley of the Babindolský potok stream. The village is 15 km east of Nitra, in the direction of Vráble. The landscape, local building history and the Babindolský kros offer different focal points for a stay. Which of these guides your plans depends on whether you are interested in the natural surroundings, historic buildings or the routes of a particular race.
Rolling hills, streams and land use
The Babindolský potok and Hosťovský potok streams are right-bank tributaries of the Žitava via the Vráble retention reservoir. Fast-growing willow and poplar stands have spread along the banks of the regulated Babindolský potok as a result of natural succession. This landscape is complemented by fodder crops, rye and wheat cultivation, and viticulture. Viticulture is only one part of the area’s agricultural character; fodder crops, rye and wheat cultivation are also important. The Vinohrady area includes old vineyards and orchards and is used for horticulture. The residents of Babindol established vineyards in 1741. Viticulture and horticulture are therefore not only part of the area’s agricultural character but are also connected with the village’s history.
Chapels, church and local history
Babindol was first mentioned in 1271. Religious buildings include the Church of St. Imrich, a historicist building dating from 1909, as well as several chapels. The Chapel of St. Urban was built in 1922 and stands at the beginning of the access road to the local vineyards. A masonry Chapel of the Holy Trinity was renovated in 1989; the wayside chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary was restored in 2001. The masonry Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes is located by the municipal office and is one of the local landmarks protected by the municipality. The dates distinguish construction from later work: 1909 and 1922 are construction years, while 1989 and 2001 mark renovation and restoration, respectively.
Routes at the Babindolský kros
If you would like to include the Babindolský kros in your trip, check the date of the relevant edition; it may vary. The football pitch in Babindol serves as both the start and finish. In the 2026 race, there was an 8 km route with 140 m of elevation gain and a 16 km route with 280 m of elevation gain. The longer route is twice as long as the shorter one, and the stated elevation gain also doubles. In 2026, an 8 km Nordic walking cross-country route was also held for the fourth time; it should be distinguished from the cross-country running route, which is also 8 km long. In 2026, 90 percent of the running route was on dirt roads and through the forest, while 10 percent was on asphalt. This surface breakdown applies to the 2026 edition and may change in later editions.
