Čab between landscape, views and local history
Accommodation in Čab
Čab brings together landscape, local history and community events. Specific points of interest include the RADOŠINKA observation tower, historic buildings and a recurring goulash competition. If you are looking for hotels in Čab, you can consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay most.
Views and landscape around Čab
Čab lies on the western slopes of the Nitrianska pahorkatina, on both sides of the Radošinka stream. The RADOŠINKA observation tower stands on a ridge in the hilly landscape, on a rise historically known as Mraha. Its location is where the cadastral areas of Čab, Nové Sady and Šurianky meet, at an elevation of 218 metres above sea level. This elevation refers to the tower’s location, not its height.
From there, the view extends across the Podunajská pahorkatina and towards the Tribeč, Vtáčnik, Strážovské vrchy, Považský Inovec and Malé Karpaty mountain ranges. The old city of Nitra and nearby Topoľčany are also part of the panorama described. The view thus brings together named landscape regions and mountain ranges with two cities; these place names give it a specific geographical context.
The observation tower is a destination for active tourism and leisure, appealing to nature lovers, hikers and cyclists. If you are interested in the landscape and the views, RADOŠINKA offers a clear point of reference for this part of your trip planning. Your interest in the ridge, the panorama, or cycling and hiking tourism can each provide a different focus, without confusing these themes with one another.
Monuments and architectural history
The Morový stĺp is a Baroque plague column and the oldest monument in Čab. It commemorates the 46 people who died during the cholera outbreak of 1773 and is now protected by the Monuments Board. The memorial is thus associated with a specific historical event and its victims.
A chapel in Čab was built in 1889 at a road junction in a Romanticising style. It is Neo-Gothic and dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius, the apostles to the Slavs. Its historical use included holding Holy Mass there only on feast days and at funerals.
The two buildings offer different ways to explore local history: the plague column recalls the consequences of the 1773 cholera outbreak, while the chapel is defined by its date of construction, style and dedication. If you are interested in cultural history, these specific differences are more useful than a simple list of sights: one is a memorial, the other a religious building from the late 19th century.
A local competition with a music programme
Čabský kotlík is a recurring public goulash-cooking competition. The third edition took place on 3 September 2022. The municipality had announced 5 September 2026 for the seventh edition. The third edition was followed by a music programme; music was also planned after the announced seventh edition.
If your travel plans depend on a specific event date, check the relevant dates before making plans. The competition adds a public event to the landscape and historical themes, centred on cooking goulash together and a music programme afterwards.
