Lúcnica Nad Zitavou offers two clearly distinct areas of interest: trails and springs on the one hand, historic buildings on the other. The nature trail can be planned around its length and approximate walking time; the manor house, mill, church and chapel provide specific points of interest for exploring the history of the local architecture. Depending on how much time you have, you can decide whether to focus on a walk or on architectural details.

Vajkovská Studnička and its surroundings

A spring rises on a gentle slope at Vajkovská Studnička. The site includes a stone well, a chapel, landscaped green areas, an ornamental pond, benches, a fire pit and an information board. The well and spring are only part of the setting: the landscaped areas, pond and seating add other features for you to notice during a visit. Vajkovská Studnička is accessible at the beginning of Vajky nad Žitavou, in the Lúčnica district. From Dyčka, the route crosses the railway line and follows the stream to the chapels and spring. This route gives you a specific point of reference for finding your way.

Nature trail along the Žitava

The Vajkovská stará Žitava nature trail is 1 km long, has no elevation gain and has four stops; the walk takes approximately 30 minutes. This self-guided, linear walking route can be walked in either direction and is open year-round. It starts behind the Vajka nad Žitavou manor house and follows the Žitava upstream to Horné lúky. The length, elevation gain and approximate walking time help you gauge how long to allow. The route also makes the trail a clearly defined activity: it follows the river from the stated starting point to a named destination. If you are more interested in architectural history, the historic buildings can provide a different focus for your stay.

Manor house and mill

The Vajka nad Žitavou manor house is a late Baroque, single-storey building dating from the mid-18th century, with a U-shaped floor plan. A large park from the 18th century once surrounded the manor house. The floor plan is a striking architectural detail, while the date of construction and the park add historical context. The manor house is abandoned and falling into disrepair. Take its condition into account when planning, and check the local situation before visiting.

Another architectural trace is Ferencyho mlyn pri kaštieli. The mill building, originally Baroque, probably dates from the mid-18th century. Significant elements were retained during its reconstruction in 2010. The mill thus offers a distinct perspective on the architectural history of the area, with an explicitly tentative date and a later phase of reconstruction.

Church, chapel and historical context

The Church of sv. Jána Nepomuckého is a late Baroque building dating from the mid-18th century. Side aisles were added in 1911, followed by alterations in the 1950s. The church thus reveals several distinct building phases: its late Baroque origins, the extension and later alterations. It is in good condition and continues to serve a religious purpose. If you plan to visit, it is advisable to check the current situation in advance.

The Chapel of Panny Márie Šaštínskej dates from 1733. A religious travel account from 2018 describes Vajkovská studnička in Lúčnica nad Žitavou as a “lost” pilgrimage site. This recorded description adds a religious dimension to the architectural themes, without presenting the spring as an active pilgrimage site today.
