Lužianky: Archaeology, Church and Rivers
Accommodation in Lužianky
Lužianky brings together several topics that can be considered separately when planning a trip: river landscapes, archaeological history, church architecture and cultural events. If you are looking for a hotel in Lužianky, you can decide whether the landscape, history or a specific event date should be the focus of your stay.
Landscape and River Courses
Lužianky lies on the edge of the Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina, at an elevation of 140 to 190 metres. The Radošinka River flows through the village and joins the Nitra there. In the municipal planning documents, the Nitra is designated as a biocorridor of supraregional importance, and the Radošinka as a biocorridor of regional importance. Later planning instruments may update these designations.
Archaeological History
Lužianky is an important archaeological site. Finds from the area include examples of the Linear Pottery culture, the Želiezovce group and the early Lengyel culture. The area was inhabited during successive archaeological periods; its settlement history extends back to Great Moravian burial grounds. In the parts of the village known as “Korytovská” and “Korytovská za vodou” there is a prehistoric settlement that the 2009 planning document identifies as the most significant recorded archaeological site in the territory of Lužianky. If you would like to visit an archaeological exhibition, check locally whether one is open to visitors.
Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was completed in 1938 and blessed on 18 March 1939. It is 22 metres long, 9 metres wide and 9 metres high; its tower is 32 metres high. The furnishings include a carved altar made by Austrian masters.
Cultural Events
“ROK NA DEDINE” was held for the eleventh time in Lužianky on 10 November 2024. This edition presented Slovak rural traditions: the pre-Lenten carnival, spinning gatherings, the bridal head-dressing ritual, the grape harvest and baptisms. “Lužiansky KOTLÍK” is a goulash-cooking competition held in Lužianky. Competitions took place in 2022, 2023 and 2024; an invitation was also issued for 2025. The events have different focuses: one centres on depictions of folk customs, while the other centres on cooking goulash. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the dates in advance.
Transport History and Horse Riding
Lužianky railway station opened in May 1881 on the Nové Zámky–Topoľčany line. On 3 October 1948, it was renamed from Zbehy to Lužianky. Check the timetable separately for current train services.
Horse Club Nitra is located in Lužianky at Korytovská 20. A description from 2017 mentions a riding school for beginners and experienced riders, as well as training in dressage and show jumping. Experienced riders could also go on rides in the surrounding area. For your planning, enquire about the current offerings.
