Štefanovičová combines a specific geographical setting with local history and a regional bus connection. Bus route 403 420 is relevant for getting there; it runs between Nitra, Štefanovičová and Rastislavice. If you plan to use this connection, check the current timetable before travelling. In addition to planning your journey, you can get a sense of the village through its landscape and historical traces.

Landscape and Orientation

Štefanovičová lies in the southeastern part of the Nitrianska pahorkatina hills, on a plain. The first detail places the village within a broader landscape, while the second describes the local terrain. The Tvrdošovský potok stream flows through Štefanovičová; it was formerly known as Taráňsky potok. The regional location, the plain, and a watercourse with its current and former names are three distinct geographical reference points.

Traces of Local History

The name Taraň appears in several historical contexts. Dolný Taraň was first mentioned in 1269 under the name Taran. In the 18th century, the Grassalkovichovci founded a settlement in the area where sheep were raised. From 1910, the Šuriansky cukrovar leased both Taraň estates. In 1935, the municipality of Taraň was formed by merging the manor farms of Dolný Taraň and Horný Taraň. The dates mark different events: 1269 refers to the first mention of Dolný Taraň, while 1935 marks the formation of the municipality of Taraň. Between these two milestones came the founding of the sheep-raising settlement in the 18th century and the start of the lease in 1910.

Chapel and Architectural Heritage

The chapel in Štefanovičová, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was built by Russian prisoners in 1916. It can be an interesting stop for cyclists. A statue of the apostles of the faith, sv. Cyrila a Metoda, stands on the border of Štefanovičová in the direction of Branč. The Marian chapel and the statue point to different religious associations: the chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, while the statue depicts the apostles of the faith, sv. Cyrila a Metoda.

Elements of the former railway have been preserved in Štefanovičová. Several buildings from former manor farms display features of lowland architecture. The former school building is located in the centre. The manor farm buildings are characterised by their lowland architecture, while the school building can be understood through its former function and central location. The preserved railway elements point to another architectural trace of the village’s history.

More Recent Cultural Developments

More recent developments also form part of the village’s cultural history. In 2024, the theatrical tradition in Štefanovičová was revived; carnival processions were also revitalised that year. This date sets these cultural events apart in time from the older history of Taraň and the construction dates of local landmarks. The village’s history thus includes both long-standing references to names and settlements and dated events from more recent times.
