Pers on Lac de Saint-Étienne-Cantalès
Accommodation in Pers
Pers is situated on the shore of Lac de Saint-Étienne-Cantalès. Several themes come together to help you plan your trip: a Romanesque church, the Viaduc du Ribeyrès and the Sentier des Fraulières, as well as go-karting and fishing. You can therefore tailor your stay around the landscape, cultural heritage, a hike or a specific activity. The different options appeal to a range of interests—from the lakeshore and architectural history to outdoor activities.
Lakeshore and fishing area
Lac de Saint-Étienne-Cantalès is a 560-hectare reservoir, with Pers situated on its shore. The Pers arm of the lake is designated as a fishing area. Check the current local regulations before fishing.
Romanesque church and altarpiece
The Église romane de Pers was built before 1234 and is dedicated to Saint Martin and Saint Eutropius. The church also houses an 18th-century altarpiece, listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. An altarpiece is a decorative structure behind an altar. Here, the church’s early construction date is paired with a furnishing created several centuries later. Its dedication to two saints is another distinctive aspect of the building. The construction date, dedication and altarpiece offer different points of interest if you are interested in the Romanesque church and its historic heritage.
Viaduc du Ribeyrès and dam construction
During construction of the Saint-Étienne-Cantalès dam, the piers of the Viaduc du Ribeyrès were encased in concrete. This was intended to prevent them from corroding due to the reservoir water. This makes the connection between the viaduct and the dam construction specific: the concrete casing protected the piers from the water. Anyone interested in civil engineering will find here not only the structure itself, but also an insight into a technical measure and its purpose.
Hiking and go-karting
The Sentier des Fraulières is a 7 km circular hiking trail that is partly wooded. It starts in front of the former Pers town hall. At the northern end, you can enjoy a view of the Viaduc du Ribeyrès. When planning your day, take the route length into account; before setting off, also check local trail conditions and current signage. The starting point and the view at the northern end provide two different landmarks: the beginning of the loop and a view of the viaduct.
Karting de Pers offers outdoor go-kart rental for everyone. Check current operating dates and participation requirements before your trip. Unlike the hike, whose length is fixed at 7 km, planning and taking part in go-karting depend on the dates and participation requirements you need to check.
