Trémouille is located in the Haut Cantal, in the Artense and in the Parc naturel régional des Volcans d'Auvergne. Two distinct highlights shape a stay here: the lakes and the Église Saint-Martin. The lakes differ in their origins, size and permitted activities; the church offers a cultural and historical visit of its own. If you are looking for a hotel in Trémouille, you can first consider which of these highlights best fits your travel plans.

Lakes with different things to offer

Lac du Tact is a 23-hectare artificial lake. It was created by flooding a former peat bog. A themed trail passes a wildlife observation point and picnic tables. This combines the lakeside landscape with an opportunity to observe wildlife and a place to take a break along the way.

At Lac du Taurons, a different kind of walk takes centre stage: an easy path circles the lake and offers views of the landscape. Those looking for a route with opportunities for nature observation and a place to picnic will find these at Lac du Tact; at Lac du Taurons, the defining feature is the walk around the water. The two places therefore offer different reasons to spend time outdoors.

Lac de Lastioulles covers 125 hectares and lies at an altitude of 800 metres. The lake is suitable for swimming and fishing. At Plage de Lastioulles, swimming, sailing and canoeing are also possible in summer. This seasonal restriction is useful when planning: the three activities at the beach are explicitly part of the summer offer. The beach has held the Pavillon Bleu label since 2015; check before your trip whether the award is still current.

For people with reduced mobility, the beach can provide step-free access and a Tiralo beach wheelchair. Check before your visit whether this assistance is available on your chosen date. This lets you factor potential access into your travel plans without assuming it is always guaranteed.

Lac naturel de La Crégut is the largest natural lake of glacial origin in the Massif Central and covers nearly 37 hectares. Unlike at Lac de Lastioulles, swimming is prohibited here. So if swimming is important to your choice, it is worth checking the specific rules for each lake; the two bodies of water have different conditions in this respect.

The Église Saint-Martin and its bell wheel

The Gothic Église Saint-Martin dates from the 15th century and was listed as a historic monument in 1980. The choir contains the Roue de Saint Martin, a bell wheel about 3.5 metres high. It was turned at weddings or baptisms. The architecture and bell wheel offer two different points of interest during a visit to the church: the building's history and a distinctive object with a ceremonial connection.

The church is free to visit; you can collect the keys at Trémouille town hall. Factor picking up the keys into your plans and check before you travel whether this arrangement applies to your visit. This lets you weigh a visit to the church against your other interests without assuming fixed opening hours.

Plan your stay around your interests

The lakes differ in more than just size: at Lac du Tact, a themed trail leads to opportunities for nature observation and picnic tables, while an easy circular path at Lac du Taurons invites you to take in the landscape. Lastioulles combines a lake with seasonal beach activities, while at La Crégut, the swimming ban must be observed. Together with the Église Saint-Martin, these features offer different options when choosing where to stay. Which ones matter to you depends on whether you would like to include a walk, activities by the water, or a visit to the historic building in your plans.
