Discover Beaux: Hiking Trails and Village Culture
Accommodation in Beaux
Beaux offers different ways to plan a trip: the rural landscape around the Ramel and Loire rivers, as well as hikes and village architecture. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these themes can help you decide how you would like to spend your time here. Trail information ranges from a route with a precise distance to a hike where you can discover local chapels, assembly houses and communal bread ovens.
The Ramel and Loire as a landscape setting
The Ramel is a small tributary of the Loire and forms part of the rural natural landscape of Beaux. Near Beaux, its gorges become deep and narrow, creating a picturesque landscape. Beaux is also part of the Gorges du Ramel protected area and natural inventory zone (ZNIEFF 830005540). If you want to check exact boundaries or current listings, consult the current INPN entry.
Arzilhac offers another specific landscape viewpoint: the village lies on the slope of Suc de Gorce. From there, you can look out over the Loire Valley to the southwest. This setting complements the river and gorge landscape with a clearly identified view across the valley.
Hiking trails and tour planning
The PR267 Beaux et le Riougrand route winds between hills and gorges along bucolic paths to works of art by artists from Beaux. It starts and ends in Beaux, is 14.05 kilometres long and takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes. Its length and approximate duration provide specific points of reference for planning your day.
Access is via the D103 and D421; Place de l'église is the recommended parking area. Check local parking conditions and trail conditions before setting off. The Saut du Chien tourist loop starts at Saint Barthélemy Church. Saut du Chien is a place to relax along the route through the Gorges du Ramel.
Beaux also has a hike awarded the Respirando label. Along the route, you can discover local chapels, assembly houses and communal bread ovens. This hiking description therefore offers a distinct perspective on local buildings and community spaces.
The church and village landmarks
The parish church of Saint Barthélemy was built between 1887 and 1889. Its bell tower is Romanesque Revival in style, while the nave is Gothic Revival; the two style descriptions therefore refer to different parts of the building. The church has 18 stained-glass windows, created by the glass artist Mauvernay in 1890.
The Maison de la Béate stands in the centre of Arzilhac. A fountain and a stone livestock trough are located by the communal bread oven. Nearby is the Bête du Ramel, a copper artwork recalling a local legend from 1959. Here, a communal oven, fountain and trough stand alongside an artwork connected with local storytelling.
Events and seasonal experiences
Local associations organise arts and crafts markets, creative markets, village festivals and concerts. Dates vary from one event to another. If a market, festival or concert is important to your travel dates, check the relevant event dates before making plans.
On walks in Beaux, you can gather seasonal hedgerow berries, wild thyme and mushrooms from meadows and woodland. Be sure to respect access to the land concerned and any applicable foraging rules. A 2025 guide by an association notes that the Chapelle de Malataverne may be open daily, subject to availability. Check local opening arrangements before travelling there.
