Discover Monnaie through two distinct facets: nature and outdoor activities at Plan d'eau de l'Arche, and a cultural offering that includes cinema and recurring events. There are also two walking routes with different focuses, and historic buildings ranging from Manoir de Bourdigal to Saint-Martin Church. If you are looking for a hotel in Monnaie, these places and themes can help you decide which part of your stay you would like to focus on.

Water and outdoor recreation

Plan d'eau de l'Arche is located on rue du Lavoir. Check the local signs before setting off. The lake has facilities for anglers and seasonal swimmers, so swimming is one of the activities available seasonally. The recreation area has a fitness area, play equipment and tables for breaks or picnics. The tables offer a place to pause by the water, while the fitness area and play equipment provide other ways to spend your leisure time. The site can therefore appeal to different interests: fishing, seasonal swimming and time in the recreation area are distinct options.

Two walking routes, two different focuses

The 4-kilometre heritage trail focuses on local culture and passes informative panels. The almost 8-kilometre “Ville et Nature” trail runs through urban, bucolic and wooded landscapes. The routes therefore differ both in length and in their stated focus: the shorter route centres on Monnaie's culture, while “Ville et Nature” takes in several landscape types. When choosing between the two routes, you can use these details as a guide: the distance and whether you are more interested in local culture or varied landscapes.

Cinema and culture at Salle Raymond-Devos

Salle Raymond-Devos hosts theatre performances, exhibitions, festivals, galas and film screenings. It is also home to the full edition of the Biennale “Les Devos de l’Humour”. Monnaie has a year-round cinema programme in partnership with CinéOff. The cinema programme and the biennale are two distinct cultural draws: films are screened throughout the year, while “Les Devos de l’Humour” is a recurring biennial event. Together with the other uses of Salle Raymond-Devos, they make for a broad range of cultural activities, from film and theatre to exhibitions, festivals and galas.

Historic buildings and architecture

The façade and roof of Manoir de Bourdigal are protected as a historic monument under a decree dated 5 April 1930. The manor is privately owned. Its described architectural features include a projecting brick stair tower, surviving windows with historic mullions and visible half-timbering on the upper floors. The tower projects from the main building, while the windows and half-timbering add further clearly distinguishable architectural features.

Saint-Martin Church dates from between the 11th and 16th centuries. It consists of a single large nave and has a flat-ended choir. The nave is the church's main space, while the choir termination marks the end of the choir; the two terms therefore describe different parts of the building. At the manor, the focus is on the protected parts and architectural details; at Saint-Martin, it is on the dating and layout of the church interior. The two historic buildings thus offer different perspectives on Monnaie's built heritage.
