Nazelles-Négron brings together architectural history, wine and landscapes in clearly distinct themes. Churches and châteaux tell the stories of different historical periods; tastings and appellations make wine-growing another key feature. Also worth exploring are the “Loire & Terroir – Circuit n°12” trail and the Cisse, part of the commune’s natural heritage. If you are looking for a hotel in Nazelles-Négron, these themes can help you decide which aspects of the town you would like to explore during your stay.

Churches and architectural history

The Église Saint-Symphorien in Négron dates as a complex to the 15th century and is dedicated to Saint Symphorian. It was listed as a historic monument by order dated 18 November 1953. This distinguishes the dates of its origins and its protected status: the complex dates to the 15th century, while the listing dates to 1953. The central basket-handle vault is considered quite rare in the region and is one of the church’s distinctive architectural features. The adjacent barn has a roof typical of Touraine and a noteworthy roof structure. Together, the church, vault and barn offer tangible examples for anyone interested in regional architectural styles.

The Église Saint-Pierre de Nazelles is also connected to heritage conservation through a specific work of art: its stained-glass window “La Crucifixion” was classified as an immovable monument on 2 February 1904. Alongside the Saint-Symphorien church complex, this makes a single window another distinct point of interest.

Châteaux and their stories

The façades and roofs of the Château de Nazelles are protected as components of a historic monument under an order dated 1 October 1963. Its earlier history includes the year 1520, when the château belonged to Thomas Bohier, builder of Chenonceaux, who had the manor house built at that time. These are two different dates: 1520 refers to ownership and construction history, while 1963 refers to the protection of the façades and roofs.

The Château de Montdomaine has one clear visiting requirement: visits are by appointment only. The château invites visitors to discover natural wines from its 17 hectares of vineyards in the Vouvray, Touraine-Amboise and Touraine appellations.

Wine and landscapes

Maison Gandon offers a wine tasting in a troglodytic cellar. Another tasting, which combines meeting the winemakers with an immersive experience, is available by appointment. The two tastings therefore differ in setting: one takes place in a cellar, the other among the vineyards. The Touraine-Amboise appellation stretches along the eastern slopes from Cangey to Nazelles-Négron. Its terroir is characterised by clay-and-gravel soils and so-called Perruches soils, which give the wines their distinctive character.

The “Loire & Terroir – Circuit n°12” trail passes through Nazelles-Négron and Noisay. It goes by old troglodytic dwellings on the slopes and follows a shaded path along the river or through the vineyards. The landscape also includes the Cisse, which is part of Nazelles-Négron’s natural heritage.
