Perrusson: Circular Trails, Wet Meadows and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Perrusson
Perrusson offers several ways to shape your stay: circular trails through varied landscapes, the wet meadows of the Prairies du Roy, and historic buildings. If you are looking for a hotel in Perrusson, you can plan your trip around whether you are mainly interested in hiking, exploring nature or learning about the history of the area.
Circular Trails Through Varied Landscapes
The circular trail “Sur le coteau de l'Indre” runs along the eastern slope of the Indre Valley and passes through river floodplains, fields and forests, as well as hamlets and villages. Its sequence of landscapes combines open and wooded sections with small settlements; the eastern valley slope provides the route’s geographical setting. If you choose your walk based on the scenery, you will find both river floodplains and sections of fields and forest here.
The circular trail “Dans la campagne perrussonnaise” starts and ends at Place du 8 mai 1945 in Perrusson. Its landscape features include forests, fields, open spaces, geological features and wet meadows. In contrast, this route also names a specific starting and ending point in the village, in addition to describing its landscape. This provides another point of reference when choosing routes based on their described course and location.
Wet Meadows and Nature Trail
The Prairies du Roy Sensitive Natural Area extends across the municipalities of Loches, Beaulieu-lès-Loches and Perrusson. At more than 240 hectares, this wet meadow landscape gives the nature theme a distinct scale alongside the circular trails described above.
A marked discovery and interpretation trail is available for individual, self-guided visits. Guided tours and nature workshops are also offered in July and August. If you would like to include one of these seasonal programs, check the specific dates in advance.
Churches, Priory Remains and Archaeological Traces
The present-day building of the Église Saint-Pierre de Perrusson dates from the 10th and 11th centuries and was listed as a historic monument in 1926. Perrusson’s parish church also has an archaeological connection: during the renewal of its flooring, six aligned sarcophagi were uncovered in December 1973.
Only the walls of a polygonal apse remain from the former Priory of Saint-Genest. The remains of the chapel were listed as a historic monument by decree on 16 June 1928. Next to the chapel is a 16th-century fountain decorated with pilasters and mascarons. A polygonal apse has a multi-sided ground plan; pilasters are flat, wall-attached piers, and mascarons are decorative mask-like figures. These terms help explain the forms and decorations described here.
Plan Your Stay to Suit You
When booking a hotel in Perrusson, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay. For a hiking trip, you can compare the two circular trails based on their landscape descriptions and starting points. For a nature visit, consider whether you would like to use the marked trail independently or take part in a seasonal program. If you are planning a guided tour or nature workshop, schedule your trip for July or August and check the specific dates before booking. You can then compare hotel offers based on your personal requirements.
