Saint-Cyr-Sur-Loire: Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Saint-Cyr-Sur-Loire
When planning a trip, Saint-Cyr-Sur-Loire can be viewed through two main themes: nature excursions in the Val de Choisille and parks with botanical, artistic and literary themes. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip here, these differences can help you choose a destination based on the activities that matter to you during your stay.
Natural Landscapes and a Hiking Loop
The protected natural area of Val de Choisille extends across Saint-Cyr-Sur-Loire, Fondettes and La Membrolle-sur-Choisille. Its landscape includes marshes, wet meadows and woodland, as well as steep slopes above the valley. Its flora and fauna are diverse. This means the area encompasses several distinct types of landscape, from wet habitats to wooded slopes.
A 10.4-kilometre hiking loop runs along the river, slopes and forests in the Val de Choisille. It provides a defined way to explore the natural area: its range of habitats is complemented by a route that passes through riverside scenery, varied terrain and woodland.
On Foot or by Bike
Another way to experience the surrounding area is the La Vallée de la Choisille cycling loop. Rated as an easy route, it is eight kilometres long and takes about an hour. The route first passes through the streets of Saint-Cyr-Sur-Loire and then reaches the Choisille Valley. It starts and ends at Quai des Maisons Blanches.
The two routes offer a direct choice between different types of excursion: a 10.4-kilometre hiking loop and an eight-kilometre cycling loop that takes about an hour. The distances apply to different activities; the time estimate is for the cycling loop. This lets you choose between a walk and a bike ride when planning, without treating the route details as equivalent.
Quai des Maisons Blanches also points to the river’s former importance to the area. Until the 19th century, all economic activity on the river was concentrated in the port area of Les Maisons Blanches. The connection to the quay therefore adds a historical dimension to the cycling loop beyond its route.
Parks, Plants and Art
Parc de la Perraudière is open to the public and laid out as an arboretum. It contains more than 120 labelled plant species. Sculptures are placed throughout the park, each relating to its setting and landscape. The park thus brings together botanical diversity and public art, with the sculptures engaging with different locations and areas of the landscape.
The Pavillon Charles X displays works by local artists and craftspeople, as well as themed municipal exhibitions. A puppet theatre is also located on a south-facing terrace overlooking the Loire. The various places in Parc de la Perraudière each have their own focus: plants, sculptures, exhibitions and theatre are among the different themes you can discover there.
Literary and Cultural Places
Parc de la Tour offers a different focus. It is a literary park created from a restored former private park dating to the 19th century. Its installations include reading alcoves, performance areas, giant letters, feathers and oversized herbarium pages. Its literary character is reflected not just in the park’s name but also in the features that shape the grounds. Literary events are held there regularly, and exhibitions of contemporary art are also presented.
The Manoir de la Tour also adds to the cultural offering. The municipal cultural guide for 2025–2026 presents it as a venue for exhibitions, performances and conferences. Together, these cultural destinations have distinct focuses: the parks bring together landscape, plants, art and literature, while the Manoir is a venue for various cultural events.
