Savigné-Sur-Lathan: Discover Hiking and Heritage
Accommodation in Savigné-Sur-Lathan
La Petite France adds to this selection with an exhibition that makes use of sound, light and animated miniatures. Movement, architectural history and exhibitions thus stand alongside one another as distinct areas of focus.
A hiking trail with clear planning details
The Falun pour l’autre hiking trail is described as an easy route measuring 12 km, taking three hours and climbing 12 m. Distance, duration and elevation gain are different planning measures: each describes the scope of the route from a different perspective. The easy rating complements these figures, but it does not replace your decision about whether 12 km and three hours fit your day’s plans. If these details are important for your outing, check the route specifications again before setting off.
The trail starts on Avenue de Touraine and is marked in yellow; both are specific reference points for your planning.
Fortifications, coat of arms and church
The fortifications of Savigné-sur-Lathan form a remarkably well-preserved ensemble, with massive towers, moats fed by the Lathan and three main gates.
The coat of arms combines the fleur-de-lis with the royal support given by Francis II in 1559 for fortifying the town as a walled settlement. This provides a distinct way to explore the town’s history: the coat of arms links a symbol with a dated political contribution, while the fortifications show the architectural features of the subject.
The Church of Saint-Pierre belongs to a different period of construction. It was built in the 15th century on the site of an older church dating from the 11th century. This sequence sets two different building periods side by side: the 11th-century church as the predecessor and the 15th-century construction. The choir retains sculpted polychrome vaults. Polychrome means multicoloured; “sculpted” describes the three-dimensional, elaborately worked design. This detail therefore makes it possible to appreciate both colour and form. Savigné’s heritage thus presents two historical perspectives side by side: the fortifications evoke the walled town through its coat of arms and architectural features; Saint-Pierre combines a building sequence from the 11th to the 15th century with the design of its vaults. Town history and church architecture come together here.
La Petite France
La Petite France offers a different focus from the hiking trail and historic buildings. The exhibition includes 600 m² of covered exhibition space, sound and light effects, and animated miniatures. The collection spans from 1920 to the present day. Unlike the hiking information, these details describe the exhibition space, the presentation format and the collection’s time span.
