Cernoy-en-Berry lies on the banks of the Notre-Heure. Hiking trails pass through rolling, wooded landscapes and sunken lanes; the washhouse, Fontaine Saint-Loup and Église Saint-Martin add village history and architecture to the picture. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Cernoy-en-Berry, these different highlights can help you plan your daily itinerary.

Hiking with a choice of highlights

The Circuit de La Notre Heure is a very easy hike covering 8.4 kilometres and taking 2 hours and 15 minutes. It passes through agricultural plains and woodland. With the stated duration, you can plan the route as a set block of time in a day that includes other local interests.

The Circuit du tour du bourg passes through sunken lanes, wooded areas and landscapes with changing views. The Circuit des Montagnes leads to a 180-degree panorama over the Pays Fort. The two trails therefore offer different highlights: one features a succession of landscape elements, while the other offers the explicitly named panorama.

The Circuit de la Fontaine Saint-Loup ends at the Fontaine Saint-Loup. This route thus combines hiking with a specific site of cultural and historical interest.

Waterside sites and village history

The washhouse is located on the mill leat of the Moulin des Borses and is fed by the Notre-Heure. It is considered a landmark of the commune and is associated with the nickname “Cernoy les Bérouettes.” Historically, the village women would meet there to exchange news from the outlying hamlets.

The Fontaine Saint-Loup is 100 metres from the village and is adorned with a statue of a saint. Until the First World War, it was a pilgrimage site. The washhouse tells the story of a meeting place in everyday village life, while the fountain reflects its religious significance in the past—two different ways of exploring the history of the place.

The Église Saint-Martin

The Église Saint-Martin was rebuilt in the neo-Romanesque style at the end of the 19th century and is recognisable by its slender bell tower. The term neo-Romanesque identifies the style; the period of construction and the tower also give the church a distinctive architectural character.

Regional cuisine

Le Saint-Loup offers Sunday brunch, a homemade set menu of the day, and platters of charcuterie and goat’s cheese from the village. The menu combines a meal with products from Cernoy-en-Berry. Le Saint-Loup is one of the “Loiret Pause” partners and is a versatile stop for travellers, with regional products and dishes. Cernoy-en-Berry is also geographically among the Loiret communes in the AOP Crottin de Chavignol area.
