Saran: Forest, Culture and Sport
Accommodation in Saran
Saran combines nature, culture and sporting activities. Part of the Forêt d’Orléans lies within the town, alongside cultural attractions and sports facilities, each with its own focus. If you are planning a stay, these themes can help you choose what to do.
Forest and exercise
The Forêt d’Orléans is suitable for walks, hikes and jogging, as well as cycling on VTC or VTT bikes. This offers different ways to exercise in the forest, from a stroll to a more athletic outing. Part of the forest lies within Saran.
A different kind of training can be found on the hill known as « La butte » in Parc de la Médecinerie, which people use for exercise. This offers a clear distinction for planning: the Forêt d’Orléans is associated with several leisure activities, while « La butte » is described as a place for training.
Culture at Château de l’Étang
Around 1900, a greenhouse complex in the Baltard style was added to Château de l’Étang. The château was restored to become an exhibition gallery. The Galerie du château de l’Étang plans to hold around one art exhibition per month. As exhibition programmes can change, check which exhibition is currently planned before your visit.
Parc du Château de l’Étang also brings together different activities. In the park’s natural setting, La Guinguette offers a chance to relax and socialise; opening hours may vary. The town of Saran has also installed ten pieces of sports equipment for the Parcours de santé Saran in the same park. This means that training on the fitness trail and enjoying a social visit to La Guinguette are two different options available there.
Theatre and heritage
Théâtre de la Tête Noire is a professional theatre company focused on creating new works. Its remit also includes introducing audiences to artistic works and providing educational activities. Those interested in theatre will therefore find not only a connection to artistic work, but also to how it is shared with audiences.
Another cultural landmark is the Aérotrain viaduct. It was recognised as 20th-century heritage in 2015. Saran’s cultural scene thus encompasses contemporary theatre and exhibitions as well as a historical landmark.
Swimming and getting there
The Centre Nautique La Grande Planche in Saran has a 25 × 15-metre swimming pool with six lanes. A range of water sports can be practised there, including underwater sports, water polo, competitive swimming and synchronised swimming. If swimming is part of your plans, check current opening hours and facilities before your visit.
Saran can be reached by car via the A 10, D 2020 and D 2701. As road conditions can change, check the latest traffic information before setting off.
