Millas offers several specific points of interest for a stay: historic buildings, views from Força Real, botanical walking routes and the olive oil tradition. The attractions focus on different things—from a town park with play and exhibition facilities to fortifications and an olive mill visit. This lets you include culture, scenery and olive oil in your travel plans according to your interests.

Park and Church Art

Millas’s town park has a children’s playground and the Laurier exhibition space for cultural and artistic exhibitions. The two facilities offer different experiences: play and exhibitions are found in the same park. If you plan to visit an exhibition, check the current programme; municipal facilities can also change.

A key part of the town’s history is the parish church of Sainte Eulalie, first mentioned in the 12th century. Its monumental gallery measures 120 m² and was built between 1440 and 1442. The church also houses a collection of historic art assembled over more than half a millennium. These details tell different parts of the story: the church’s early mention, a precisely dated structure and a collection that grew over a long period.

Fortified Gates and Local History

Historic functions can also be read in specific buildings outside the church. The Barbacane Chicane preserves the layout of a barbican that defended the entrance to the first town fortifications. La Portalade, by contrast, is a Gothic fortified gate. It protected a walled district where the harvests from Millas’s farms were stored.

The two structures therefore represent different functions: the barbican defended access to the first fortifications, while La Portalade protected a district used for storage. If you are interested in Millas’s history, look out for this distinction as you explore the buildings—both the defence of an entrance and the agricultural use of a walled area.

Força Real and Botanical Walking Routes

The 507 m-high rocky summit of Força Real overlooks the valleys of the Têt and Agly rivers. From there, the view extends over the Roussillon plain, the sea, the Albères, the Têt Valley and the Corbières. The panorama takes in several named landscape areas; the summit is a focal point in its own right, alongside the town’s historic attractions.

For planning, there are two different route descriptions: the Força Real loop can be started in Millas. The botanical walk from Millas to Força Real takes about 1 hour 30 minutes and is rated easy. Along the way, 45 botanical panels introduce the surrounding vegetation. This route therefore combines an approximate duration and difficulty rating with a botanical focus. The loop and the botanical walk are different descriptions: Millas is named as a possible starting point for one, while the other is the route from Millas to Força Real.

The duration of the botanical walk should be treated as an approximate guide. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check the latest information before setting out.

Olive Oil and Visits

La Catalane olive mill continues the artisanal tradition of harvesting olives and producing Mediterranean olive oil. The tour includes an exhibition on the history of olive growing and ends with a free tasting of its own products. The visit thus combines an introduction to olive growing with a sample of the oil.

On foot, the olive mill is less than a 30-minute walk from Millas railway station and less than a 20-minute walk from the MILLAS – Foiral bus stop. These walking times may vary with trail conditions. Visit times can also change, so check the latest information when planning your visit.
