Ur between the Rahur and border trails
Accommodation in Ur
Ur combines a Spanish-French border landscape with distinctive architecture and practical topics for trip planning. Alongside the Rahur and its meadows, hiking trails, Saint-Martin Church, fishing and horse-riding options shape the choices available. When planning, you can decide whether you mainly want to explore on foot, take a closer look at the village’s architecture, or include an activity with horses.
Border river and village character
At Ur, the Brangoly and Angoustrine meet; their confluence forms the Rahur, which marks the border between France and Spain there. Sunny meadows surround the village. Its character is shaped by broad wooden porches; large houses are enclosed by solid perimeter walls. The river makes the border setting tangible, while the porches and walls offer a different perspective on the village, drawing attention to its architecture.
Saint-Martin Church
Saint-Martin Church preserves the Cerdagne’s most interesting apse from the first Romanesque period. Its rich furnishings span the 16th century through to the Baroque period. The apse and furnishings therefore reflect different art-historical influences. Visits to the church can be arranged on request through the town hall; confirm the arrangements before your trip.
Hiking along the border
The PR 11 hiking trail, “Par-delà la frontière,” starts at the car park by Ur Church. It is an easy out-and-back hike covering 8.9 kilometres and takes two hours. Current access conditions may vary; check them before setting out.
A walk from the church in Ur leads to LlĂvia, a Spanish enclave within French territory. On a border hike starting from Ur, you can see some of the 602 numbered border markers that run from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. While LlĂvia is a specific destination, the markers point to the wider border line between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
Fishing and horse-riding options
The Parcours de Pays du Rahur includes 800 metres of fishable water along the right bank in Ur. There you can fish for brown trout. The fishing stretch is easy to access and clearly signposted for anglers.
The Centre Equestre du Belloc in Ur offers trail rides, riding lessons and riding courses. Trail rides are available for one hour, two hours or half a day. This lets you choose a shorter time slot or a longer outing; lessons and courses are separate offerings. Baby pony activities are available from the age of two. Ur’s international horse fair takes place every year in October. Check the specific event dates before planning your trip around it.
