Meyrignac-L'église combines a pond trail with historic architecture and local history. The natural highlight is Étang de Meyrignac, located east of the commune and covering 17 hectares. The pond and its surroundings are designated as a protected area; this designation was made by ministerial decree on February 7, 1944. During your stay, you can focus on either nature watching or the area’s various cultural themes.

Exploring Étang de Meyrignac

The “Promenons-nous sur le sentier de l'étang” trail is 3.1 kilometers long, easy, and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Its length, difficulty level, and approximate duration give you several points of reference for planning your hike.

The trail crosses a wooden walkway through the pond’s wetland fringe, where animal and plant species can be observed. Four themed information panels cover history, natural habitats, fauna, and flora. The circuit therefore offers views of both the wetland environment and themes relating to nature and history. The parking area for the pond trail is to the left of the dam on the D32E towards Meyrignac.

Architecture and local history

The house known as Maison dite Henri IV offers a glimpse of several periods of construction. Its main façade dates from the late 16th century, and its window features from the 17th century. On the upper floor, a fireplace bears the date 1606. The date on the fireplace also falls within the 17th century, while the façade dates back to the late 16th century. By decree of March 7, 1995, the house was listed as a protected monument historique.

The Church of Sainte-Anne has its own building history: after the former church was destroyed during the Revolution, Sainte-Anne was rebuilt in 1894. Its features include a Limousin portal beneath a porch with carved capitals, as well as a carved wooden tabernacle from the 17th and 18th centuries. The tabernacle is attributed to the Duhamel brothers of Tulle.

The two buildings offer different historical perspectives: the Maison’s story focuses on the dating of individual architectural features, while Sainte-Anne’s centers on its reconstruction and furnishings. An even older connection dates back to the 12th century, when the village of Meyrignac-L'église belonged to a commandery of the Order of Malta. Local history thus ranges from this historical connection to the dated architectural features and the church’s reconstruction.
